Katniss opened her mouth to protest. She didn't think she could ever call another man "father". No, her father died in the coal mining accident years ago. Conner seemed nice and she was grateful for him taking care of Prim and Peeta, but she would never consider him her father. She just couldn't and she didn't want Prim to forget their real dad and their real mother either. "I'm sorry, Prim, but I don't think-" she broke off. Now was not the time to protest something like this. They could speak in private. "Nevermind. I'm eighteen", she replied quickly to cover up her own weakness. "That sounds nice."
At the sound of footsteps, her hand tightened around Prim's, but the face that appeared stole her breath. Peeta? She knew he was here, but seeing him person, face to face, was entirely different matter. He looked healthy, better than he had looked back in District 12 and perhaps even happy if she see past the tears shining in his eyes. She swallowed and nodded her head.
