Prim may have restrained herself, but Katniss didn't hold back. She literally swept the younger girl off her feet in a strong, powerful hug. She was real! Prim was real! She smelled so sweet. Her hair was so soft beneath her touch. "I'm real, Prim. I'm real and I promise I won't leave you again", she replied softly. She had walked away once, believing her sister safe only to watch her be blown to bits before her eyes. Stepping back, she cupped the younger woman's face and looked deeply into her eyes. No. No trackerjacker venom or morphling could ever perfect those eyes and that smile. Leaning in, she placed a kiss on that forehead. "I won't. I'll protect you."
Keeping a hold on the blonde's hand, she turned to face the man leaning against the wall. He seemed friendly enough and he had been taking care of Prim and Peeta; he said he adopted them. Katniss was not sure about the adoption part, but she was glad Prim had a surrogate family of some kind. She needed stability and sadly, it was something Katniss could never give her. "Thank you. I don't know how to repay you for everything you have done for Prim and for Peeta," she replied sincerely. The last Peeta she had glimpsed was on the verge of finally coming back.
