Harry was nervous. He had been worrying about meeting Karrin Murphy for awhile, and unsure how to initiate it. The recent trouble seemed almost like a godsend, even if he hated to see it that way, in that it gave him an excuse to guide seeing her as a almost business thing. He had taken his slow time walking to the spot she named, stopping several times, and husbanding his strength so he would not appear weak before her.
She seemed still as incredibly Murphy as ever, but she seemed more cop Murphy than the Murphy he had known toward the end. He was glad she had a job and was able to do what she did best, but there was a part of him that worried, just a little, that everything slowly built was gone.
Not to mention that she was now with, and pregnant with the children of, another man. That made him cringe when he thought of it, though he noticed, even the week after he had learned it, that he didn't feel as intensely about her as he thought he had. And in fact, feelings were growing in another direction entirely.
And when he walked through the door of the cafe restaurant, he smiled, one box under his arm, eyes hunting for her.
