Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Justin & Zach.
What: Zach's abdicated from being Village Git. Justin is Worried. Also: Justin reignites some of Zach's suspicions, and Zach is unintentionally adorable.
When: Thursday, during supper.
Where: Hufflepuff seventh-year boys' dorm.
Rating: R, for swears that will probably happen, for angst that will definitely happen, for the nature of aforementioned suspicions, and for Zach being adorable.
Status: In progress.

Zach said that he hated everything often enough for people to conceivably start ignoring it and brushing it off as, 'just a Zach thing.' It was just a fact of life that, if you said things too often, they lost their meaning, and Zach had decidedly gone over his limit of being able to say, 'I hate everything' and expect people to believe him. But, right now? He definitely hated everything. He and Ernie had hardly spoken for about a week, at this point, and it was only some miracle that Hannah was talking to him, and, Merlin, he just wanted everyone to go away. He hated this. He hated everything about this. There may not have been Big Brother in the form of the school or the Ministry, but his father was watching him now, and that knowledge was just about killing Zach.

Literally, even. All he'd wanted to do since he'd gotten Dad's owl and talked to Susan was sleep; he'd even fallen asleep on the Quidditch pitch twice already, making it back into the castle just in time for curfew on both occasions. He'd skipped most meals this week, in favor of either nicking food from the House Elves or just not eating anything; it wasn't as though he sought to gain anything from not eating -- he just didn't have the initiative to eat. Took more energy than it was worth, it did, and none of the food tasted any good. This was having side effects that Zach didn't like -- it was bad enough that he'd lost weight over summer hols and during the Quidditch try-outs, but his weight had slipped down further still this week (he wasn't keeping meticulous track, but after he'd needed to cinch his belt tighter in the morning, he'd checked and seen that he was now barely ten stone-4.5)... but he still didn't feel like eating. He'd nicked food from the kitchens on the way back to the dorm to see Justin, but he had no desire to eat it.

He barely had a desire to talk, at that; he was freezing cold, and it was bothering him more than most everything. As Zach entered the dorm, he went immediately to Justin's bed, sat down next to him, and huffed, "Budge over. You're sharing your body heat tonight; I'm bloody freezing." Without waiting for permission, Zach nestled up against Justin, putting the care package from the House Elves on his lap and putting his head on Justin's shoulder.

Justin was prepared to budge anywhere for Zach, as long as they had the chance to talk and as long as that talking didn't involve Zach disparaging himself any more. No matter what Zach though about honest, he wasn't a bloody problem. That thought was, in Justin's mind, completely and entirely the doing of Zach's stupid bastard of a father, and he wouldn't stand for it any longer.

When Zach finally came into the dorms and made himself comfortable on the bed beside Justin, he sighed quietly, leaning his head gently against Zach's. He tried to think of something to say, but all he could do was struggle over trying to put his emotions into words. So in the end, he only wrapped his arm around Zach's shoulders and started gently stroking his hair.

Well, Justin may have wanted to talk, but Zach didn't feel like saying anything just yet; Justin had been the one to ask him to come up to the dorm, so it logically followed that Justin had questions to ask or things to say. On his end, he was pretty sure that there wasn't much to be said. He'd run his mouth off since school started with very few consequences, consequences had finally come and in the worst way possible, and so Zach was going to at least make an effort to shut the fuck up, lest his father turn out to be serious about the threats he'd made in his owl. Leaning into Justin's embrace was not yet helping anything, and, though Zach wasn't particularly hoping for much, he opened the box from the House Elves and took out one of their sandwiches and biting into it. "'ll clean up later," he mumbled. "Meantime, bloody eat something, would you? You're skipping supper with me anyway, so... tuck in." At least Justin was keeping his promise not to talk about Zach's weight; that much was reassuring.

...Damn it. Justin somehow managed to hold in a sigh, slowly reaching into the box and selecting one of the sandwiches. Bugger fucking shit, he didn't want to eat it. But if it would make Zach happy... He'd just have to do something about it later. For now, though, he nibbled at one corner, determined to take the smallest bites he could without gaining Zach's suspicion. There. He was eating. And Zach couldn't complain about it, no matter how slowly the eating was happening, because of the simple fact that it was happening.

And then there was the matter of talking. ...Maybe they didn't need to talk about this whole nonsense about Zach thinking he was a problem. Maybe they should just talk about something else. "C'n I ask you somethin'?" Justin mumbled around his bite of sandwich. "'Bout that night we got smashed celebrating your making captain?"

To be completely honest, Zach didn't give a fuck how quickly Justin ate, as long as it bloody happened; if Justin had been in the dorm before asking Zach to come, then he was probably ill again, or something, and that meant that he didn't need to be eating quickly. He needed to eat, though. Granted, Zach hadn't been to enough meals to know for sure how many Justin wasn't going to, but he hadn't seen the prat at a decent number of the ones he'd gone to, and that either meant that Justin was consciously skipping them or should've been taken to Saint Mungo's for whatever the fuck was wrong with him. He'd accepted that Justin had been sick on the first day of classes, but no one was sick this often -- but he didn't have any business thinking about it. They didn't talk about his weight, so Justin's was an off-limits subject as well.

And, conveniently, Justin had to go and bring up an entirely different line of discussion. "Sure thing," Zach agreed, nuzzling up closer to Justin; just being closer to him made Zach feel warmer. "What about it?"

Justin adjusted the arm around Zach's shoulder, holding him closer. He was pretty sure he already knew the answer to this question, but he couldn't be sure. Zach hadn't mentioned it, after all, and he thought that this would more than definitely be something he would've brought up by now. "...Did we kiss? I mean, I was pissed, completely pissed, and I wasn't, you know, sure if we'd actually snogged or if I'd had some weird dream where we did or what. So...did we?"

Zach swallowed thickly -- fuck, he should've seen that part coming. Of course Justin wanted to talk about that night. While part of Zach had hoped that Justing would have just blacked out and entirely forgotten the snog, his overwhelming wish had been for Justin to remember it, even in some passing fashion. It would've destroyed a part of Zach's ego to genuinely think that he wasn't a memorable snog for reasons that didn't involve alcohol. "Yeah," he said softly, turning his face in to Justin's neck. "Yeah, we did. And all it makes you is a good snog -- a lil' sloppy, but you were pissed, so it's forgiven -- and an affectionate drunk. ...Really affectionate drunk."

Justin flushed darkly, closing his eyes and abandoning his sandwich for a moment so nuzzle into Zach's hair. God, they'd actually kissed. ...And did Zach just...? "I was good?" he asked meekly. "Really? 'Cause... 'cause I hadn't ever kissed anyone before." His blush darkened even more after providing Zach with this information, and he kept his face hidden in Zach's hair. Merlin, it was so bloody embarrassing. Seventeen and he was so drunk for his first kiss, he had to ask if it really happened. Completely pathetic. ...At least it had been with Zach, though. There wasn't anyone he trusted more.

Zach furrowed his brow amusedly at how Justin was acting and gave him a (hopefully) reassuring nuzzle. Merlin Fucking Christ, he'd actually been Justin's first kiss? Zach hadn't ever been anyone's first kiss before -- their first kiss with another bloke, sure, he'd done that before, but... he'd actually been Justin's first real kiss? ...Jesus. That was fucking special, even if Zach had kissed more than his fair share of good-looking blokes. "You were even better if it was just your first time," Zach told Justin earnestly, giving Justin another nuzzle and rubbing their noses together. "'s a bit sloppy, yeah, but... you were pissed, so no big deal. God, my first time, I was pissed and I had no idea what I was doing -- bloke I was kissing had to keep, like... reorienting my mouth 'cos I kept trying to snog his chin. Finally gave up when my mouth got to his neck, 'cos that was sloppy but at least it didn't feel bad."

Zach had really, actually been Justin's first kiss. And Justin's blush only spread at the compliment and the nuzzles, and he finally tucked his face against Zach's neck as he listened to the story of his mate's first kiss. "'m sure you were brill," he mumbled, closing his eyes. How could Zach be anything but? He was Zach, after all.
