kaleigh + miles
WHO: Kaleigh Nott & Miles Bletchley
WHAT: Run in!
WHERE: Shopping in London
RATING: PG
STATUS: Pending

Kaleigh Nott had much on her mind. Not only did she have eyes on her every time she dared to leave her home, but she was worried about the upcoming months. Soon Teddy and Draco would leave Hogwarts and the new laws would apply to them. It wasn't fair and she wanted to give every Ministry employee a good smacking for their idiot laws. Who did they think they were making innocents suffer? Angus chose to become a Death Eater and accepted his fate, but his son had no part in the messy affair! Even poor Draco had been coerced as far as Kaleigh was concerned. Why should they be punished the rest of their lives for their fathers' mistakes? She wanted to fight back, but she wasn't sure how. For all her fire, she had spent her life being the proper pureblooded woman -- she wasn't a trailblazer by any means. Yet, Padma's offer had her thinking. Perhaps the written word could make a difference. Sure, Padma was talking about a small Hogwarts newsletter, but Kaleigh was starting to plan. She had to start somewhere, after all. For that, she had ventured into London. She wanted to clear her mind and gain some perspective before agreeing to Padma's want. However, as her mind cleared, her stomach rumbled. She had forgotten about breakfast again. She hated eating alone and with Angus gone...well, it was easier to just dismiss meals. Nonetheless, she couldn't ignore the need all the time, and thus, decided to grab a bite at a little cafe.

Miles didn't know why he was in London. It was a far cry from Glasgow, but he'd grown tired of staying home, and wandering from pub to pub near his home. He'd thought of going somewhere else, somewhere much farther where he didn't have to worry about being labeled Death Eater. Somehow he'd wound up in London, alone and hungry. Without paying attention to the name, Miles had ducked into the first cafe he'd come to. It didn't take long for him to get seated and to start looking at the menus to see what he'd like to eat. Then he'd happened to look up just to see Kaleigh Nott enter the very same cafe. Smoothly, he was on his feet in an instant.

"Kaleigh," he began, not really bothering with polite titles. Before his mother had died, she's loathed being called Mrs. Bletchley because it reminded her of the fact her husband was dead. Miles had no idea if Kaleigh was the same, but it was something he did without really noticing, even if he'd been taught better manners as a child. As he continued, he did incline his head to her slightly out of respect, "would you care to join me? It just so happens that I have an empty seat available."

Kaleigh smiled when she noticed who had spoken the invitation. She took no issue with Miles using her first name though she had never quite thought about the reminder of Angus every time she heard 'Mrs. Nott' from someone. Maybe because his death was still so fresh, she was always thinking about him anyway. Hearing her title really didn't add any pain nor did it take any away. His absence was always with her, especially when Teddy was at Hogwarts and she had time to dwell. Though, of course, seeing Angus in Teddy was also a reminder that her husband would never walk through their door again.

"Mile, darling, hello! I'd love to, thank you." She landed a kiss upon his cheek before settling down. She really like the boy despite the activities he had gotten caught up in. She felt for his family and all their pain. "How are you?"

Miles was glad that Kaleigh had happened upon the cafe, because truth was he didn't feel like eating alone. The fact that she happened to be someone who understand the trials undergoing his own family at the moment made it all the better. Miles was almost certain that Kaleigh knew what it meant to be looked at with suspicion, and sometimes fear, though maybe not to the exact extent he did. Of course, she hadn't done the things he'd done. She hadn't recieved a dark mark, or ruined any lives. Unfortunately, and regrettably, Miles had participated in such terrible acts.

Her question was normal, quite routine to be exact, but as he sat down it caught him off guard a little. How was he? Well, that seemed like a loaded question to him. He'd been drinking too heavily. His sister was on the outs with him about it, the majority of his family was dead, he'd managed to snog his cousin's best mate, and was avoiding both said cousin and the girl involved. Quite honestly, he felt horribly, but he gave Kaleigh a smile regardless, along with a very small shrug and said, "Things could be better, but that's life isn't it?"

It was life, and he knew it. So he didn't see any point in really dwelling on it, or boring Kaleigh with the details of whatever sordid activities he'd managed to get his drunk self into. Besides, despite the fact that he'd never been overly close with her son, Miles was concerned with both how he was, and how Kaleigh herself was doing. "How are you? And Theodore?"

Kaleigh did have her own problems, but she always welcomed a chance to help someone else with his. She especially liked Miles since she had known various members of his family throughout the years. She knew he had to be hurting, but she didn't want anyone that young to feel alone. For that, she smiled sympathetically. "Life and it's cruel sense of humor is at it again?" She smoothed a napkin over her lap and turned interested eyes to Miles.
