Holidays hadn't normally depressed Miles, but this year was different. It was somewhat natural for him to be upset, considering so many of his family members were missing this year. It hurt him to know that when Christmas day came he would have so few tp share it with. The fact that Sally-Anne had brought Millicent with her for the holidays did comfort Miles somewhat. Though he may not seem like the type, but Miles did enjoy company, and having things to share with others. Having Millicent there for the holidays made it seem more like his family was there, more people to share it with, more people to smile and laugh. At least he hoped there would be smiling and laughter. If not, the holidays would be even more depressing than he imagined they would be as they progressed.
The entire thing had him thinking too much, and drinking too much. Currently, he was sitting in a chair by a fire in the library, hiding somewhat from everyone. The flask that Millicent had given him for his birthday was in one hand, while the other held the journal that Alicia Spinnet had given him. He'd taken to writing some of his more personal thoughts in it, so he wouldn't have to worry about hexing things private. The problem was, the majority of the what he was writing was very upsetting to himself, and he was seriously considering burning it. Now would be the perfect opportunity. There was a roaring fire just to his left and it would be so simple to just toss it in. But at the same time, he couldn't bring himself to.
With a sigh he brought the flask to his lips, tipping his head back and taking a long swig. The alcohol, he thought it was firewhiskey, but he was honestly a little drunk already and so he couldn't place the taste too well. He scowled at the fire, thinking about what he could do to occupy his time. Sitting here sulking wasn't doing anyone good, especially not him. The only problem was, he couldn't think of anything better to do. There was Sally-Anne and Millicent that he could track down, or he could find Marley. Either sounded fine to him, but then he had no idea what he'd do once he found any of them. There was the possibility of going out somewhere, but his mind wasn't working well enough for him to even come up with anything that sounded interested. With another sigh, Miles took another drink and stared into the fire, losing himself in his thoughts.
