Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: George and Patricia
What: Date!
Where: Patricia and Kenny's, Le Gavroche (a French restaurant in London)
When: 27 November
Rating: PG-13 for now
Status: Incomplete

George was nervous, there was no denying that. A date. With Patricia. A proper date, with dinner and everything. Merlin's balls, he was insane. He would never get through this alive. He'd do something stupid or say something stupid and she would hate him. ...Merlin, he couldn't stand it if she hated him.

Taking a deep breath, George fussed over the bouquet of daisies in his hand for a moment then slowly, hesitantly, lifted his hand to knock on the door of Patricia and Kenny's flat. This was it, then. No turning back now.

The Town Meeting had upset her so much that there hadn’t been much time for nerves the last day before their date. The butterflies only threatened to disturb her once she started to get ready for it. It had been entirely too long since she’d had one of these. What if George didn’t like her dress? What if he was doing this because he was bored and not because he was interested? Her stomach was in knots trying to figure out his intentions here. She tried to ebb them away with the fact Oliver had been fairly certain about it all. He wouldn’t have led her astray.

She’d been fussing over herself in front of the hall mirror when she heard the knock. She’d worn the green dress that Oliver had insisted was the right one but then it was a matter of hair up or down, flats or heels. She’d let her curls down though and she’d chosen flats because they were sensible and she was a sensible sort of girl. At last minute, she switched over to heels though because they made her legs look better.

Patricia moved to the door undoing the charms and latches to let him in. She had no doubt it was George and not her roommate. Kenny wouldn’t have knocked – he had a key. She took a deep breathe before opening it though. She didn’t know what she was so nervous about. It was just George. He looked nice though. He looked really nice.

“.. Hey,” she offered almost shyly before moving to give a peck to the cheek in greeting. She noticed the daisies. How sweet! He'd brought her flowers.

George's mouth went dry when Patricia opened the door. ...Merlin. After she kissed his cheek, he had to swallow more than once before his throat would work, and even then he sounded like some teenager going through puberty.

"You look... You look amazing," he told her, finally managing a smile. God, she was gorgeous. That dress... And those legs. He was so busy staring at her that he nearly forgot about the flowers, blinking and thrusting them toward her when he remembered. "Yours. Um. I brought these. For you."

Her cheeks flushed brightly when he told her that she looked amazing. He was staring at her. She couldn’t help but notice it. She wondered if she had something stuck in her teeth or her dress was caught in her knickers or something. She couldn’t resist a quick glance in the mirror to make sure there wasn’t something wrong with her. She looked fine though. He was … admiring her. The realization only made her blush deeper.

"You look good enough to eat yourself,” she commented barely able to resist nervous laughter than wanted to escape her throat. Why couldn’t she have just said he looked handsome? He did look good enough to eat though. She took the flowers into her hand raising them to her face to smell them before gesturing for him to come on in. “I should probably put these into some water before we leave. They’re beautiful – are you certain you didn’t get them for Kenny instead?” A joke.

George blushed bright pink, ducking his head slightly and mentally thanking Fred for letting him borrow the suit. He followed her inside when she motioned him in, shaking his head and finally relaxing the slightest bit. "Figured I could send him flowers later, depending on how things go tonight."

Her nerves hadn't really let up that much but it was easy to fall into the natural swing of things. That much she was grateful for. She filled a vase and put the flowers into it before grabbing her jacket and tugging it on. It was cool outside. She couldn't very well freeze to get wherever they were going. "I knew you were using me to get to my roommate," Patricia teased him. "I'm sorry to disappoint you but you're not his type."

George sighed over-dramatically, opening the door and holding it for Patricia. "Too ginger and male for him, I know." He smiled gently, shrugging. "I suppose I could just take you out." ...God, he hoped she didn't take that the wrong way. They were just messing around, right? She knew he was teasing. ...Right?

She exited out the open door knowing it was charmed to secure itself and she didn't need to fuss with it. She gave him a side-glance before reaching to lace her fingers in his. Yes. This was a date and she could take liberties with him if she wanted to. "I like you and your ginger hair - it's Kenny's loss," she told him. She hadn't taken it the wrong way but it came off quite a bit less funny than it had been in her head. It was true. She did like him. "I know this is such a massive imposition on you though. I guess we'll have to make it worth your while too." Okay, less serious.

Oh Merlin, she was holding his hand. On purpose. With their fingers laced together and everything. George swallowed nervously and lowered his voice. "Honestly? I'd pick you over Kenny any day." His cheeks blushed even darker than before, but he held fast to her hand as they made their way down to the taxi he had waiting. It was a Muggle restaurant, after all, and he'd never been, so he wasn't sure if there were any secure alleys they could Apparate to. Hopefully the food was as good as the woman who told him about the place said it was.

Patricia still didn’t really know where they were going. That was the exciting part of it all. She was still absorbing the fact he said he preferred her over Kenny though and it took a second to regain her thoughts. “So – where are you taking me anyways?” she finally asked as they made their way downstairs and toward the taxi. She did find the fact they were taking a taxi interesting. She took them sometimes with David and Adam when she was going out with them. Her brothers couldn’t exactly go the magical way to places. That made all the difference. This certainly was not an outing with her brothers though.

"Le Gavroche," George replied softly, still rather in awe at the fact they were actually holding hands. "It's a Muggle place. French. Is that... Does that sound alright?" Oh, Merlin, please let it be alright.

It sounded expensive and ... well, Patricia didn't really think of French restaurants when she thought of George (or Fred). Was he trying to impress her or was this complete other side of him? "Of course it is," she told him, "I'd be happy anywhere -- I'm not hard to please. The main thing is the company."

George paused next to the taxi, opening the door for her. "...I really hope the company is enjoyable enough for you too," he murmured. "I'm afraid I'm absolute rubbish at this dating thing. I haven't been on a date in... forever."

Patricia smiled as she slipped into the taxi scooting so that he could get in too without having to move to the other side all together. He opened doors for and he seemed rather sincere in his intentions about all of this. She couldn't ask for more than that. She couldn't even imagine it really. "You're not rubbish," she told him gazing at him thoughtfully once situated in her seat. "I haven't been out on one in a while either. We'll be rusty together. I'm still a bit surprised that you asked. I never thought you thought of me like this."

George slid into the taxi beside her, giving the driver the address of the restaurant and blushing as he looked over at Patricia. "Honestly, I'm surprised I asked too. I've never had that much luck gathering the courage before. ...Guess life surprises you sometimes, though." He gave her a shy smile, reaching across the seat to take her hand again.

“I hope I haven’t been that scary,” she said with a laugh. Patricia didn’t think she was intimidating or anything like that and even if she hadn’t wanted to go on a date with him she would have been polite with her rejection. She was there though and she did want to be with him. “I think the fact that you had the nerve will be to your advantage in the long run. I can only hope that I am worth the effort,” she confessed though she hardly elaborated on it. She perhaps meant more by it than her words revealed. In school, he’d always been so overshadowed by Fred. Fred was one way so she assumed he’d fall in. There alone in the silence of the taxi she couldn’t help but find he was nothing like she used to think he was. George was far tamer than she thought he’d be. She liked him this way.

"I think you are," George said quietly. "Worth the effort, I mean. Not that scary. I just... I know people don't expect it from me, because of how outgoing Fred and I are together, but I'm so... awkward. And I know I'm awkward, which makes it even worse because I know if I try something I look like a complete idiot. So most of the time I just... don't try." Patricia was different, though. Special.

Patricia couldn’t find a reason why she was special enough to make him try though. There really wasn’t anything extraordinary about her. She was deeply flattered by the fact she was worth the effort in his view. Her cheeks flushed and she blinked for half a second trying to come to grips with it all before settling on watching his face again. “That’s why I said yes. These last few times you’ve spoken to me, I’ve noticed it. You’re not like him,” she confessed, ”You’ve got a good soul… not that he doesn’t but you really do and you show it even when you don’t mean to.”

George couldn't put a finger on exactly what it was about Patricia that made her special. She just was. George shrugged softly, a faint pink staining his cheeks once again. "...Fred really is a good bloke. He's just... He's stubborn and he likes to talk without thinking. Mostly he's stubborn. Especially about-" George cut himself off, biting down briefly on his bottom lip. He didn't need to drag Patricia into their family problems. "...Well, he's just stubborn."

Yeah it was a date and talking about your family or the problems associated with them excessively wasn’t something you were really supposed to do but Patricia wasn’t like most girls. She didn’t care if he talked the whole night about them because for her it didn’t make her any less important. It made her more so if he were willing to trust her enough to talk about them. The self-censoring was caught though and she watched carefully, unsure whether it was appropriate to ask what he hadn’t said. In the end, she opted to ask.”—No tell me, what is he is especially stubborn about?” she asked quietly. “I mean… if you want to. You don’t have to but … I’m okay with listening.”

"...About Percy, really. I mean, if Fred knew I've been talking to him, he'd have a fit. I hate keeping things from him, it feels so wrong, but I can't tell him. You know?" George didn't know why he answered. If it had been anyone else, he wouldn't have. But Patricia was different. It was just another one of those things that George couldn't identify that made her special.

She remembered the constant torment of Percy from back when they'd all been back at school. She'd laughed right along with everyone else but a part of her had always felt sorry for the older boy. The fact of the matter was Fred probably wouldn't have been happy if he'd known she'd sent him food via Oliver only days before. George thank goodness didn't seem like he would be that big of a problem. "Sometimes you can't control other people," she told him. "You just have to give them time to come around to it. You're siblings though. It's natural to not always get along but even then somewhere deep inside they have to love each other. They'll come around."

"Merlin, I hope so. If Percy doesn't come home for Christmas, Mum'll be heartbroken. But I'm afraid if he does come home for Christmas, Fred'll end up hating the both of us." George sighed, then shook his head, giving Patricia's hand a gentle squeeze. "That's enough of that. This night's about us, yeah?"

Patricia despite the quarreling and everything else had faith that Fred wouldn't hate his own twin for any reason. He might not be perfect but he'd come around. She could always remember hearing about Christmas at the Burrow when they were all in school and she'd always been a touch curious about it all. It seemed lovely. She hoped this year wouldn't be any different and maybe she'd get to come too. "You're right. Night's about us and I believe we've gotten to our location anyways," she said noticing they'd stopped moving. She couldn't help but smile. "For the record, I've never eaten at a French restaurant. I hope you know what we're getting ourselves into. "

George paid the driver and slid out of the taxi, offering his hand to Patricia to help her out. His cheeks went pink and he ducked his head a little. "Actually, I've never even been here. Someone at the shop told me about it and said they have good food. Merlin, I hope they speak English."

Patricia slid out holding onto him as they begin to move toward the actual restaurant. Honestly even if the food wasn't good, she'd have been okay. She was having a decent time just hanging out. "If they don't then we can guess at the menu and hope for the best - I know what Escargot means," she offered playfully. "I'm sure it'll be fine though. Did you really discuss where to take me with your customers? That's really adorable!"

"That's snail, innit?" George asked, wrinkling his nose. Eugh, snails. Creepy, slimy little things. "I... might have been freaking out about where I was going to take you. Bloke suggested this place to shut me up, I think."

"I think so," Patricia said giggling at his crinkled nose. Honestly, snails were about as low on her list and frog legs. The only frog legs she was ever going to eat were chocolate. That was how it was. "—You didn’t need to stress about where you were going to take me. I’d be happy if we found fast food and threw chips at each other – which if our options are frog legs and snails we might end up doing anyways."
