Who: Kenny and Katie
Where: Hampstead Heath
When: 5ish
What: Talking because Ken's having a bad day
Rating: G probably.
Status: In progress

Kenneth sat on a bench, staring dejectedly at the ground. In all honesty, he knew it was a good thing that he and Andrea weren't together anymore, but it still hurt. She'd lied to him, betrayed him, and worst of all she'd accused him of doing those things to her. Sure, he liked Katie, there was no denying that, but the thought never crossed his mind to pursue those feelings in any way. Not while he was with Andrea. He just wasn't that kind of guy. Not to mention that they'd been together for years. He was used to seeing her every day. He loved her, even if that did make him somewhat of a fool.

The very thought of not having Andrea in his life made him panic slightly. He knew it was ridiculous, especially considering that just before he'd come here she'd come to see him. They'd gone to a park near Kenneth and Patricia's place, and they'd fought. Andrea'd screamed at him, called him all sorts of terrible names, and try as he might, all it did was make Kenneth sad. He hadn't yelled back, he hadn't even said anything. Eventually he'd just walked away, and she'd yelled at him even more for that. Called him a coward, said he wasn't worth her time. He knew she was just taking her anger out on him, she'd always been somewhat like that.

Now, he sat waiting for Katie. In normal circumstances he'd probably be nervous about the whole thing, sitting here waiting for a girl he'd been hopelessly attracted to for even longer than he'd loved Andrea, but today, he just felt like crying. If he'd been at home, chances were he would be crying, and that's not something that Kenneth would be ashamed of. He had emotions, he was fine with showing them, but he didn't want to cry. When Katie had responded to his journal entry, he'd wanted to tell her that he was horrible, that he felt absolutely terrible. Instead he'd just asked if she would meet him. He didn't want to be alone, didn't want Patricia to see him so upset, and Katie was one person he actually wanted to spend time with.

Kenneth sighed, glancing up and around him. Without realizing it, he glared at a passing couple holding hands. Automatically his arms crossed over his chest, and he looked away, glaring at the ground again as if it had done him wrong. He felt bad that Katie would show up and he'd be like this, in a poor mood, but he hoped that she'd be able to bring him out of it.

Katie didn't really know what was going on, but it didn't sound good, and his journal really wasn't happy. She'd managed to write back to him when she was on the ground for a breather. She was distracted the last part of the day trying to figure out what was wrong with him. Her couch pulled her aside at the end asking her if everything was okay. Katie couldn't help but to tell him the truth, that she was worried about a good mate, and confused. Her couch merely laughed and told her to go figure it out and to not get that distracted again.

Katie left the Magpie's pitch after taking a fast shower, she didn't even bother drying her hair. She tossed on a pair of jeans and a Liverpool Football shirt she'd gotten from someone a long time ago. She didn't know a lot about Liverpool, but she liked the red shirt. It didn't take her long to get close to the park. She stopped a little bit away, she was sort of hidden by bushes when she saw him. He didn't look happy at all. If she had to guess depressed or angry were the two emotions that came to mind.

She couldn't stand there and watch though, she had to go and talk to him. That was the plan right? Spending time with him, he didn't want to be alone. Even if it was a little bit strange still to know that he had feelings for her in school, that didn't change the fact that he was one of her mates. She could hear Ali in her head mentally pushing her forward. The thought made her smile slightly as she headed towards him.

She could feel her heart hurting just a little bit when she really got a good look at him. "Hey." She said sliding into sitting next to him. Katie had to fight her first instinct, but it was sort of hard. She didn't say anything else before she just wrapped an arm around him. "I'm sorry." She said softly, she wasn't sure even what she was sorry for, well she figured nothing was really her fault, but she couldn't get the glaring at the ground out of her head. She didn't know what else to say.

Kenneth barely moved his head, just his eyes when Katie sat down next to him. He couldn't quite get the sullen look off his face, or find anything to say. When her arm came around him he instinctively leaned against her with a sigh. It was only when he realized how good she smelled that he straightened, turned a little red, and moved away, so that he was halfway turned toward her. He gave her a very small smile, almost whispering, "Hey." It took him a while to register that she'd apologised and when he did, he frowned at her.

"What do you have to be sorry for?" He asked studying her face. He was struck by how beautiful he found her. It caused him to feel torn inside. He loved Andrea, but she had hurt him, and he cared for Katie a great deal, but what was he to do? He had no idea how she felt about him, and even if she did care for him in return, he still had the issue of Andrea to deal with. She basically had stabbed him in the back, but he still loved her far too much for his own good. It killed him. The entire situation just made him hurt.

He was a little embarrassed when his vision blurred slightly, a result of tears in his eyes. He looked away quickly. Yes, he wasn't ashamed about crying, but really, he didn't want to start bawling in front of Katie. He was extremely grateful that she'd come, and didn't want to repay her by sobbing like a child. Which he was bound to do if the tears really started. What girl would want to spend their time comforting a crying former classmate that they'd never been extremely close with who had a hopeless crush on her but was upset about another girl?

Katie's worrying instincts hit her right away, she didn't know what to do though. It was just hard to figure out what to do in a situation like this, but all that really mattered was trying to help him out. Katie figured he'd long since gotten over her, besides she was just Katie, she wasn't as firey or as interesting as Alicia, she wasn't as strong and tough as Angelina... She was just Katie. What anyone would find special about her past Qudditch was beyond her.

"I don't know." She said shrugging slightly. "I'm sorry you're hurting." She was too, Katie didn't want him to be in pain, if she could she'd take it away, honestly if she could she'd probably say a thing or two to his girlfriend... Or well ex... Or something, she didn't know the facts, she wasn't going to let her mind run wild with it. Katie's eyes searched his face for a moment, she wanted to do something, anything to make him feel better.

When he looked away she wanted to reach up and make him look at her, but she couldn't get herself to do it. That'd be awkward right? And the last thing he seemed to need was awkward. Katie held in a frustrated sigh, it was frustration with herself, not with him at all. After all he was the one that just looked hurt. She could either force a way to cheer him up, or just let his emotions go and sit with him. That latter looked the most likely.

"You know, I've got a really good new tea. And you can just either tell me what happened, or we could sit and listen to something." She said softly. "Or, how about just walking up the hill a bit, and off to the side their is a really pretty pound that very few people go to." Katie didn't think sitting in a more public area was good for him, if it were her that was upset she'd hate all those people looking at her while she was upset... She wasn't even sure if he'd notice something like that, but in the off chance he did, going somewhere less crowded sounded good.

Clearing his throat, Kenneth looked back at Katie, nodding his head. He only looked at her for a moment, his eyes flitting away to pass over various individuals walking by. It then that he realized how this must look. One woman looked away quickly when his gaze met hers. Kenneth had never really thought about it before, but to a stranger, this might be something they'd be curious about: a young man looking as if he were about to cry in the presence of a beautiful girl. He briefly wondered what the woman thought while looking at them. Maybe she'd assume they were having a lover's argument. The thought made Kenneth sigh again.

"That sounds wonderful, actually." He said, his tone a bit more melancholy than he'd meant it to be. With a small wave of his hand he added, "any of those. I'll let you pick. I'd rather not think too much, if that's fine." He shot an apologetic look at Katie, hoping he wasn't being too much of a bother to her. He felt terrible and with each passing moment he felt worse. One hand began to fidget with the edge of his shirt, the other resting on his thigh in a loose fist, his thumbnail rubbing absently across the inside middle knuckle of the rest of his fingers.

"I'm sorry." He said, suddenly, his face wearing an expression that could only be described as a mixture of sadness and worry. His fidgeting, all movement from him, stopped completely and he just stared at Katie for a moment. After taking a deep breath he mumbled, "This is probably the worst way for you to spend your afternoon." His eyes lowered. He didn't think he could look at her anymore without crying. Why did he have to be such a girl about things?

Katie's attention didn't leave Kenneth at all, he needed support, and the last thing Katie was going to do was leave him alone when he needed support. She forced herself not to let anyone passing by catch her attention, she knew perfectly well that it would just make her think too much about everything. Thinking wasn't the best option at the moment. Not thinking was a lot better. Katie couldn't stand the idea of wondering what they were all thinking about.

"Come on." She said taking his hand and standing up. Katie gave him a soft smile, she didn't want him to think she'd rather be somewhere else, well she'd rather he be happy, but that wasn't exactly going to be easy. She couldn't just make it okay with a few words, she couldn't take away the pain.... No matter what she did.

"I think fresh air is better." She said softly. "But if you change your mind we can go back to my flat." Katie added nodding slightly. She figured fresh air would be better. "You have nothing to be sorry for, you've had a bad day. This is were I want to be right now." Katie wasn't sure if she'd pick this for her afternoon, but she'd rather be helping a friend than sitting around her flat reading something. Besides wasn't that the point of being a good mate, was being around one when they needed her? She didn't like that he looked like he was about to cry over that girl, Katie didn't really want to think about her too much... It made things sort of awkward for her. So she stopped thinking about it, she decided moving up the hill would be better.

It took a considerable about of effort for Kenneth to keep himself from crying, and when Katie took his hand, it nearly destroyed all the work he'd been doing to keep from crying. He really was an emotional wreck. His first instinct was to pull his hand away as they stood, but he didn't. He kept it there, and tightened his grasp a little, even. It felt comforting to have that small physical contact with another person. He just forced himself to forget that it was Katie. Because if he thought too much about it, he might really have a breakdown.

"A walk sounds good." He said softly, letting her lead the way. Her assurance that she wanted to be there helped him slightly. He didn't want her to feel obligated just because he was a mess to stay. He would much rather have Katie be off having fun somewhere than dealing with him. He wanted to hug her, to thank her, but couldn't. He couldn't cross that distance. Wouldn't, not right now. He bit his lip, his thoughts going back to Andrea. He wanted to talk about it, but he didn't, and he had no idea if that would make Katie uncomfortable anyway. So he stayed silent.

For some reason she found it comforting holding his hand, she just wanted to make things better for him, how she didn't have a clue, but better was the goal. She lead him up the hill not saying anything. She didn't have a choice to say anything. Nothing she would say would be okay. It would all probably come out wrong, or confusing. Either way it'd be okay.

"If you need to talk about it, it's okay." She whispered softly as they got closer to the turn off that would lead to the pound. She didn't mind listening, it would be a little bit hard for her to listen to it, and it'd be strange, with how things were, she just didn't want to mess anything up. How could she mess things up though? Why was it all so awkward? It was all really hard for her to understand any of it.

"No matter what, I'm here." She added turning to the left down something that looked half like a path, half not.

He stayed silent. It wasn't something normal for Kenneth to do, just simply not acknowledge when someone had spoken to him. He felt bad for doing it but at the same time he didn't really think about it at all. As they walked he glanced down at their hands. He blinked and stopped walking for a second. He was holding Katie Bell's hand. He continued moving, hoping she hadn't noticed the pause. He felt like a ridiculous school child at how nervous that made him and he dropped her hand. His eyes slid to their corners as he looked at her, trying to form a reason why he'd done that. He settled with finding none and instead ran the hand that had formerly been holding Katie's through his hair.

His lip hurt from chewing and biting on it, a nervous habit he had. Without something for his hand to hold onto, it hung limply by his side, fingers twitching occasionally. "I'm not sure I want to talk." His voice was soft as he glanced down at the ground, then back up at the Katie. "There's nothing really to say about her other than she betrayed me by being with another man." The look on his face indicated that what he'd set made him hurt. He shrugged.

"Thank you, Katie." Without thinking, he reached for her hand again and when he'd grasped it, he pulled her closer to him. His other arm slid around her back and he hugged her. Tears fell from his eyes as he pulled away, but kept his one hand holding hers. "Thank you for coming to be with me when I'm a total mess. It means a lot."

Katie felt a little bit uneasy when he just dropped her hand like that it caught her off guard. She didn't show much of a reaction at all though, just a worried glance. Katie hated the idea of him being upset, she wanted him to be okay. Katie looked up at him as he spoke, she nodded a little bit.

Katie wanted to tell him that she was sorry, that it was probably not enough, but that she really was sorry. She wanted to steal the pain away. Katie was always really good at dealing with pain, she was sort of an expert at it at times... Well with some of her situations she had to get tougher.... At least an outer shell of toughness.

"You deserve a lot better." She didn't think anyone would want to hear that, and she knew it was probably wrong to say it... But it was honestly what she thought. "She doesn't know what she gave up..." She added. She had spoken quickly, and the next thing she knew he was holding her hand again and pulling her closer. It was a quick hug, and to say the least she was surprised, she didn't hide that on her face, and he was pulling away again, but keeping her hand...

She stopped and looked up at him. "Hey. Anytime." She added before dropping his hand and wrapping her arms around him hugging him tightly. She didn't want to make him uncomfortable, but from the way he was acting, it sort of seemed like he needed a hug, a real hug, not a half hug or a one armed hug. But a really good hug, and Katie was just to girl for really good hugs.

Maybe Katie was right, that he did deserve a lot better, and honestly, he knew that. He knew he shouldn't have to deal with someone who would sleep around on him, and call him a coward for walking away from a fight that he hadn't even started. Andrea said she loved him, but what kind of love was that? And maybe Katie was right about Andrea not realizing what she gave up. But what if she had? What if she just didn't care? What if he wasn't really that great? He had to stop himself before he found a bridge to jump off of.

It was his turn to be surprised when Katie dropped his hand, but then when her arms wrapped around him, he felt fine. It was only for an instant, the pain came back, still hurt, but he felt a little better. He made no attempt to move away from her for a while, loving the way it felt, how she smelled. It was only when his conflicted thoughts dashed in that he did begin to pull away, but not before giving Katie a quick kiss on her temple. "Thank you, again." He said, before moving away.

Kenneth turned and began to walk slowly, his eyes turned up toward the sky. Why was he wasting so much time thinking about Andrea? She'd hurt him, she wasn't worth his pain. Why should he be sad over her? Yet here he was. Yes, here he was, and he was with incredible Katie. He hoped it wasn't too awkward for her, ever since that journal entry. He didn't wish that he hadn't wrote it though, he was glad she knew. But did she think that all his feelings were in the past?

She let her head rest against him slightly as they just sort of stood hugging each other. This was for Kenneth, but part of her felt comforted. She didn't want to let go, it felt oddly safe, and oddly warm to her. She had to keep telling herself that he was hurting and it was just a hug to make him feel better. She could feel a hint of... nothing it was nothing. She pushed it off of her head. She didn't, she couldn't feel anything other than being a good friend to him.

She let her eyes shut when he kissed her temple, she opened them quickly when he moved away. She didn't want him to move away, she didn't know what to think. She had to just pretend none of it was part of her thinking, or feelings. Besides he'd probably forgotten about fancying her in school. It was nothing now, now they were both out of school with lives, and she figured he didn't think of her as anything past a friend.

"Anytime, you know I'm always here. Always will be too." She said letting her shoulder hit him very lightly, playfully for a moment before smiling at him. She had to figure something out to cheer him up. It was oddly hard to think of something though, all she wanted to do was hold him and take the pain away, but something light and fun probably was a better idea.... Only if she could think of something.

The light bump to his shoulder, along with her words made Kenneth smile. It was probably his first genuine smile since Katie had arrived. "Well, if you ever need anything either, I'm here for you, Katie." He said, looking at her and smiling a little bit wider. "So where are we going?" He asked, trying not to let his voice sound sad. He was deciding right then and there to try to be happier. He wasn't sure how well that would work. In fact, he was almost positive he would fail. But at least he would be trying.

A slight breeze hit him, and he looked at Katie again. "Red looks nice on you." He said quietly, not taking his eyes from her face. The smile had fallen off his face, but at least he didn't look so sad anymore. It really was comforting to him to be in Katie's presence.

"We are going to a place that I always go when I'm feeling blue." She said turning to the left and leading them into a closed off area with a pound and a bench looking over it. She didn't head for the bench though, she headed for the hill. Katie always sat on the hill, she could lay down their and let the peace was over her. She wasn't sure how Kenneth would feel about that, and she was forcing herself not to think about wanting to curl up next to him. She forced it out of her head.

But than he spoke, it caught her off guard. She looked over at him a little bit shocked as a smile crossed her face. "Thank you." She said biting her lower lip before nodded to the hill. "Last one to the center of it... Owes the other a drink." She said before taking off. She couldn't stand and look at him right at that moment, something fun was much safer.

The smile was contagious. He couldn't help it. He smiled back and watched as she started to run toward the hill. Kenneth just stood there for a moment, watching, his hands tucked into his jacket's pockets. When she was halfway there, he took off running, not expecting to catch up and not really trying. When she had beat him, he slowed to a walk, and continued forward until he was by her side. He smiled at her, tipped his head and said, "You said last one to the center owes the other a drink?" He asked.

"Well what if I told you I just let you win so that I could buy you a drink?" He glanced up at Katie and smiled. "There's no way I'd let you buy me a drink, not even if I'm sitting here crying like a little girl."

Katie laughed as she took a seat, she was a fast runner, but he clearly didn't want to win that race. She'd buy him a drink either way though, she didn't mind at all... But it was sweet of him.

"What's the fun in that?" she teased. "Letting me win isn't fair!" Katie wasn't serious at all though, she had a smile on her face, her checks were a little bit red from the wind as she looked up at him. Katie wanted to look away, only because she didn't like her thoughts, but she couldn't look away. Why was this so complicated? Why did it all have to be confusing and weird? Not that it was weird spending time with him. She liked that part, but it was just... Hard at the same time. None of that mattered, he needed a friend, and that was exactly what she was going to be.

"Then next time I"ll make sure you lose by an embarrassing amount." Kenneth said with a smile. He sat down beside her, probably closer than he should have, but he just wasn't paying attention. He glanced up at the sky, it was a beautiful day with the kind of clouds that you can see shapes in if you sit and watch them. Looking at them now made his mind go sort of quiet, and he was glad that Katie was with him. His smile remained, but it wasn't necessarily happy, it was just that at that moment he felt content. All thoughts of Andrea were far away and Katie was very, very near.

Glancing over at Katie, he was surprised to see how close he had sat next to her. The thought crossed his mind to move away just slightly so as to not make her uncomfortable, but he changed his mind and fell onto his back instead. One arm lifted, his elbow bent and he used hand for a makeshift pillow. He glanced back at Katie again, that same small smile on his face, before turning his attention to the sky. His eyes focused on a single cloud that was away from the others. He tilted his head toward Katie, eyes still on the sky. "You think that one there looks like an elephant?" His free hand lifted to point in the direction of the cloud.

Katie was sort of surprised that he was sitting so close to her. she didn't mind though. Actually she didn't mind at all, and that was part of the problem... She liked that he was sitting that close to him. Part of her thought about moving, but she wasn't going to do that, that'd probably be more awkward right? And she didn't want him to think that she had a problem with it. She just wasn't sure... about anything anymore.

When he was on his back, she stayed sitting. She didn't think laying next to him yet was smart. She was looking down at the water with a half smile on her face. She was happy, content, confused, and just trying not to think too much. She heard his voice shocking her out of her thoughts. She looked up. It was sort of impossible to see which one he was looking at, she figured she had to lay down. Lowering herself down she looked up at the sky. The one he seemed to think look like an elephant didn't at all to her. "Maybe a hippo, but not an elephant, where is the trunk?" She asked glancing over at him, she quickly looked back up at the sky.

Kenneth laughed, titling his head even further and squinting one eye as he stared up. "Right there." He said after a few moment's of intense concentration. His hand made an arcing motion. "It's just right there, definitely an elephant." He stated, smiling as he looked at Katie. He let his eyes linger on her face before they returned to the clouds. He was confused. That heavy feeling he'd had all day started to creep its way back into his heart. He shifted positions and his leg hit hers, but he didn't move it, just continued to stare upward.

"Katie," He began a bit hesitantly, turning his face toward her ever so slightly so that he could look at her. "I don't understand." He paused, and did a quick battle within himself as to whether this was the right idea. "Why would she do that to me?" He asked a sad tone. It was done, he'd brought up Andrea, and his question probably didn't make sense. But it was hurting him, and he either needed to talk about it, or lose himself on the other side of the world for a while.

Katie rolled her eyes. "That doesn't look like trunk at all!" She said smiling slightly, but the smell faded quickly as he started to look a little uneasy... Yet his leg was resting against hers... And he brought her up. Katie had to hold back any of her own thoughts at the moment, she couldn't think about herself right now. She wasn't spending the afternoon with Kenneth for her, she was spending it to be with him, to spend time with him... To do what she could to make things better for him.

She looked over at him. "I don't know why she'd do something like that to you." Katie said softly. "I know it doesn't help much, but I think she was an idiot for doing something like that to you, and probably a bigger idiot for doing anything that would make her loose you." She said softly. She meant it too. It didn't take Katie long to figure out what he was talking about... After all she figured it was bound to come out at some point. She could feel her own heart hurt just a little bit, she hated to see him in pain.

"Anyone that would do something they know would hurt you that badly, isn't someone that belongs in your life. You really do deserve a lot better." She smiled softly. "I don't think you'll ever know why she'd do something like that, she probably has her reasons, but I think it comes down to the pure fact she didn't want to be faithful to you..." She didn't want to hurt him more, but she wasn't going to not tell him her thoughts.

"An idiot for losing me?" Kenneth asked, looking at Katie with a sigh. "Well, what did she lose except for someone she thought was shagging you." He locked eyes with Katie for a moment before his face turned red and the thought, of what he'd just said and how many times the thought had crossed his mind during his lifetime. He sighed again, lifting one hand to cover his face. "It's terrible you know? You know someone so well, and then it turns out you don't know them at all. She thought I was seeing someone else behind her back and to her that justified what she did. But I would never." Kenneth trailed off with another sight, just leaving his hand covering his face.

"I know I'm a fool for even caring about her still, after how she was, but I can't help it." He said softly. Then he just went quiet. He thought about what Katie'd said. He was appreciative that she being honest about it, just telling him how it was. It didn't hurt so much to hear it coming from Katie. He left another frustrated sigh.

Katie nodded. "Yes, she is an idiot for losing you, anyone would be lucky to have you." She was honest about it, although it made her blush slightly when he said that he's ex thought that he was shagging her. She pushed the picture of it out of her head. She hated how her own feelings wouldn't just go away. It'd be easier if they did. She wanted them to go away. She wanted them to fly away.

"Maybe she didn't know you very well in the end? I mean, anyone that has met you and talked to you more than once would most likely come to the conclusion that you wouldn't sleep around on anyone." She meant that too, he was the last person in the world she'd expect something like that from. He was a good guy, and attractive, sweet, fun... She stopped herself again.

"You aren't going to stop caring about her over night you know. I don't think that's possible." She did however wish he didn't care so much about her, from the sounds of her, she sounded like a bitch.

Katie turned onto her side and took his hand in hers. "I'm really sorry you are going through this, it isn't fair." She really meant that too, it wasn't fair at all.

He stayed silent, his eyes closed until he heard Katie moving. He watched her out of the corner of his eye as she turned over, onto her side. When her hand touched his, taking it into her arm, there was a war inside of him, until finally a small smile settled on his lips. "I wish I could though." He said, very softly, turning his head so that he was looking directly at Katie's face. His smiled turned a little sad, but he didn't look away. He just stared at Katie's face for several seconds, his eyes passing over her eyes, mouth, back to her eyes.

He shifted his body, so that he was on his side too, the hand he had been using as a pillow coming around and touching Katie's cheek slightly, before moving up and pushing several strands of hair behind her ear. His heart beat a little faster at how close they were, how close his face was to Katie's, how his hand lingered near her hair. He gave a soft, defeated laugh, "Anyone would be lucky?" The words didn't make sense when he said them. What was he asking? Why even say that? But he didn't think about it for long because this was Katie he was with, and he had dreamed about being this close to Katie for so long.

The hand near Katie's hair moved gently behind her head, pulling her face toward Kenneth's and before he even realized he was doing it, he'd kissed her. It was a soft, sweet kiss, but a kiss nonetheless. His heart was racing wildly as he linger, his eyes half closed, breathing in the way she smelled. He thought it might be his favorite, now.

Katie watched him carefully, she liked the smile, but she couldn't help but worry when his face turned sad again. She was memorized by his touch, his hand on her cheek, she just looked up at him slightly confused, slightly lost in the moment. She didn't really realize just how close his face was to hers, or just how close they were. It wasn't what was on her mind at that moment.

"Yes." She whispered softly, anyone would be lucky to be with him, she'd known that since school, sure she had no idea he had fancied her... She really did wish she'd known, it was hard to imagine that she didn't know, that others knew and she didn't. Katie was surprised and unsurprised when his hand pulled her face towards him. She didn't hesitate when his lips hit hers, she could feel her heart race with a mixture of emotions. She let her free hand rest against his shoulder. She didn't think twice about her lips moving to kiss his again. It was slow, soft, and sweet... But she wasn't pulling away. Part of her knew she probably should, but she couldn't get herself to go anywhere. Part of it made it easier that he was the one that had kissed her, not her kissing him first. Was this even happening? She was almost positive that she'd wake up to find herself in bed confused.. Yet she was with him, and she wasn't ready to not kiss him.

It didn't matter in that moment, or even in the minutes that followed, anything that had happened previous to this. For years this was all he had wanted, to touch Katie, to kiss her and now he was. Andrea and all thoughts of her fled from his mind. There was only Katie. He pulled back slightly, looking at her again, smiled and kissed her again. The hand at her head moved away, sliding down her neck, shoulder, arm, then rested on her hip. He pulled her closer just an inch.

A small piece of his mind told him this was wrong, that he shouldn't be doing this, but another told him this was right. He just didn't know who to listen to, so he simply didn't listen at all.

Katie moved a little bit close than just that inch he'd moved her closer to him. She let her own free hand drift down from his shoulder to his side. She wasn't about to stop kissing him, it felt too good for her to actually stop what she was doing. She didn't push anything though, she just stayed with the softer kisses, although a lot of her wouldn't mind a lot more... Her mind knew perfectly well that it was a bad idea...

And that bad idea finally hit her a little bit more and more. It all felt right, it all felt right minus the fact that this was probably not the best time for him.. And she shouldn't push it no matter what. She finally stopped kissing him, but only managed to pull back a very little amount... "Kenneth." She whispered softly.

Kenneth was content to just continue kissing Katie, but then she pulled back and whispered his name. Immediately Kenneth pulled his hands away from her. What had he been thinking? His eyes widened in both shame, and horror that he'd kissed Katie. She'd come here as a friend, and he'd completely taken advantage of it. He pushed himself up on one arm until he sitting and then gave Katie an apologetic and embarrassed look. "I'm terribly sorry, I shouldn't have done that. I'm sorry."

He was even further embarrassed to find that he had tears in his eyes. He cursed himself for being so emotional, cursed himself twenty times over. Blinking rapidly against the tears did nothing to stop them and before he knew it one fell onto his cheek, then another. "Bloody hell." He said in an exasperated voice, wiping the tears away quickly and refusing to look at Katie. "You must think terribly of me." He said, staring at the ground.

He felt terrible. He was supposed to be in love with Andrea, but he'd left her because she hadn't been faithful and it hurt, but all he could think about was Katie. He liked Katie, but he wasn't supposed to kiss her when she'd only come as a friend to be with him. Of course Katie had just been being nice, right? A friend starts snogging you after a bad breakup and you just go along with it, right? Don't want to hurt his feelings more. And how must she feel? He kisses her and then cries. Kenneth had no idea what to do, or how he truly felt. He was certain Katie thought he was completely mental.

Katie was a little bit shocked at how he had reacted. Was she that bad of a kisser? Was he just doing it because he needed someone? Was she just the warm body he saw first? Was she just some sort of.... She didn't even know. She just looked at him confused. She was scared all at the same time. She did her best not to look hurt, but it was almost hard not to. She'd always been good at hiding her own pain, but it didn't make it very easy at the moment. Something about him made it a lot harder to hide things.

"If you did it just for warm body, yea...." She said honestly. "Otherwise, no, you aren't terrible." She said softly looking down at her hands. Katie let the hand that had been on his waist lift up and brush away a few tears. "I'm sorry." She said softly leaning forward and kissing him softly...

"Here." She said reaching into her pocket and pulling out a really small stuffed dog. "Thought this might help... Stay here, it's a good place to think." She said fighting her own emotions. She wanted to kiss him again, hug him, curl up against him... But his reaction made her feel like just a warm body, that was the last thing she wanted to be.

"You know, for the record. I didn't kiss you just to be nice." She said kissing his cheek before rolling away. Katie knew running was a bad idea, he needed a friend, but what about how confused she was? What about the fact that this wasn't easy for her. "Stay here, it's a good place to think. Owl me, or stop by if you want to see me." She added nearly flying up. "I'm sorry." She added. "I can't sit here and want to kiss you, or.." she looked down at her feet. "or.. .be closer and not know if I'm just a warm body, or it's too confusing.... I'm sorry." With that she turned away hugging herself tightly as she walked at a normal pace away. She didn't know if he'd let her walk away, or if he'd stop her. Part of her hoped he'd stop her, she knew that wasn't likely.

Her words took Kenneth completely by surprise. Just for a warm body? That was the farthest from the truth that there was. She was Katie. Katie Bell. She was the only body he'd really ever truly wanted to touch, ever since the first time he'd saw her. Now he'd really gone and messed things up. He didn't know what to say, how could he confess everything that he'd felt? How could he do that knowing that he still loved Andrea? He was confused, tormented, and when Katie brushed away his tears and kissed him softly he was at a total loss for words.

He took the stuffed dog almost robotically, staring at her face. He was confused. Was she leaving? His heart absolutely ached and he felt stupid. So stupid for having kissed her. "Katie..." He began, but didn't finish. She had started to speak, and kissed his cheek. Then she was moving away from him, standing up and leaving. How could he stay here? Impossible. He didn't want her to leave. Everything hit him like he was being run over by a muggle car and caught beneath it, being dragged down the street. Or like an elephant was dancing on his chest. He was on his feet immediately.

"Katie." He called out as she walked away, her arms wrapped around herself. He didn't hesitate and was walking quickly after her. He grabbed her arm, turning around slightly, a hurt, confused frown on his face. "No, you're not just a warm body. You're Katie." He didn't know if that made sense to her, but he was crying and couldn't find the words to explain it better than that. It took him a while to calm down, and when he did, he looked up at her with embarrassment written all over his face.

"I don't want to confuse you." He said, struggling to find the right words to say. "I'm so confused myself, but no, Katie, it's not like that. I wanted to kiss you because you're you. You're beautiful..." He trailed off, his heart hurting even more. What was he doing? How was it possible that he was standing here crying in front of Katie after having just kissed her, and so soon after Andrea's betrayal? It confused him, but Katie felt right.

Katie didn't want to hear him, she didn't want to feel his hand turning her around, she didn't want to look at him. It wasn't exactly easy for her either at the moment, it was confusing, unfair, and not exactly something she understood at all. She could hear his voice, but the words weren't sinking in, all she could think about was that it wasn't fair. It wasn't fair that he'd just broken up with his girlfriend, and she was just there, or that maybe it wasn't just needing a warm body... But Katie didn't want to be just some beauty, that never amounted to much. Besides she was just Katie.

"It's a little bit too late for not confusing me." She said looking at the ground to the right, her voice was soft, a little bit shaky, and a lot confused. She let out a small sigh as she looked up at him finally... Great, he was crying still. Watching him cry made it all a lot harder than it needed to be. Part of her wanted to tell him to stop crying, the other part of her just wanted to take the pain away and hug him. Although hugging him might be a little bit more confusing.

"Kissing me just because you think I'm pretty is hardly a good reason." She said softly, she really had an issue with thinking men just wanted to be with her because she played Quidditch and wasn't ugly. Katie sighed, she didn't mean to have it come out rude, but it wasn't as if this situation wasn't hurting her too. Sure she wasn't the one with a fresh broken heart, but she was still a person, she still had feelings.. And her feelings for Kenneth really didn't help any of it.

"I want you to be okay, but I can't be just... just I don't know what. But I can't not want to kiss you, I can't not want to hug you, curl up next you... But that isn't good for either of us right now is it?" She said with a frustrated smile looking at her hands playing with the edges of her Liverpool shirt. "I think I should go." She said lifting her hand up about to whip away a tear from her own face, but she managed to hold it back.

"I'll see you at your house warming party, or roommate warning party... Whatever it is. And when you're ready... I'll be here.." She didn't want to add that she might not be waiting forever, but she'd wait for a while. "I'm sorry." She said softly taking a step closer to him and kissing his cheek once again. She lingered for a moment before turning around and heading away at a brisk walk.
