Who: Melinda and Derek
Where: Great Hall
When: After dinner
What: Playing games
Rating: G
Status: Incomplete/pending

Pushing the last bit of food around on her plate at dinner was what was keeping her entertained as she sat at the table. She was no longer hungry, straddling the fence of stuffed and satisfied. Mellie figured leaving the plate was the best idea because sitting playing snaps was not a good idea on an overly full stomach. Mellie definitely got into the heat of the game when she played. That was the plan of action for the evening for Melinda and Derek to meet up and play. Seeing as they both came from different houses the great hall seemed a perfectly logical place to meet and more than likely play. After some decision she stepped out from the table, made sure clothing was presentable but not overly particular about it as she walked towards the Ravenclaw table. Brushing some of the strands of hair from her face so it framed it more she plopped down to the open seat next to Derek.

“Hey buddy,” she said with a grin as she tilted her head to look at him and leaned her back against the table and her elbows rested there. She looked at the others at the table before focusing back to Derek. “Still up for playing snaps?” She hoped he was, she was looking forward to this, it was something she didn’t get to do a lot with someone she didn’t spend a lot of time with. Win win situation to her if you really wanted her opinion.

Derek loved to eat. He'd already had a hearty dinner that evening and was well on his way to finishing off a plate filled with seconds when he was joined by Melinda. He looked up with his mouthful of potatoes when she acknowledged him and he could only nod at her until he finished off the bite. Then, a grin broke out onto his features. "Hiya," he said before he reached for his goblet to take a drink in order to clear his mouth. He hadn't.... forgotten about playing Exploding Snap of course, he just temporarily had been more fixated on dinner. And so it was a nice surprise and a reminder when his friend had brought it up after joining him.

"Of definitely," he said, before eying up his plate of food. "Just..." he paused and took one more massive bite before pushing his plate back. It took him a good minute or so to swallow that one, but when he had, he finally looked over at Melinda again. "Sorry, I was starved," he admitted outright. "Ready to play then?"

Melinda watched him finish off his bite with patiences, after all she had sort of surprised him. She hoped he remembered about the game otherwise she would feel a bit of a fool, then again that wasn't unusual for Melinda but she would prefer to not appear foolish every day. When Derek's mouth was free of food and drink he had replied, and it made Melinda beam. "Fantastic," she said when he went in for another massive bite of food causing her to laugh loudly finding it all highly amusing.

After the laugher dissipated she nodded her head. "I understand the starving thing." She often was after practice, especially if she hadn't had dinner. Often she would sneak to the kitchens to get something to eat, she had to learn to tickle the pair once she was on the quidditch team. "Yup I am ready to play," she finally replied.

Derek nodded when she confessed that she understand what it was like to be 'starving'. Of course, he was never really at such a lack for food and his mother and aunt did well to make sure of that. It was good to come from a family who put an emphasis on eating well and being healthy (even though Derek still loved his Fizzing Whizbees). When Melinda said she was ready to play, he grinned. "Right then," he said, slapping his hands on his knees before pulling himself off of the Ravenclaw bench.

"How'sabot you come up with me to the common room and I can grab the game. I didn't bring it down yet," he said, thumbing in the direction of the Ravenclaw tower."We can just play there then if you like," she added leading the way out of the Great Hall.

"I am up for that," Melinda said with perhaps a bit more enthusiasm than was necessary. "I have never seen the Ravenclaw Common Room." Melinda said as if that would explain the unnecessary enthusiasm behind her words. Melinda followed behind him as he led the way out of the Great Hall. "We can play anywhere really, so what ever works out easiest I suppose." Melinda said cheerfully, as always she was filled with a lot of energy. The only time people ever saw her without as much energy was when she had just come back from and long practice.

Falling into stride next to Derek she had to ask, "So Derek what have you gotten up to today?" She was curious as to what had entertained his day. Plus she was not one for a silent walk to any location.

Grabbing her elbow to gently lead her from the Great Hall, Derek laughed quietly. "I assure you, it's nothing too exciting, so don't get your hopes up. I'm wicked afraid of heights," he said before lowering his voice to add, "But you can keep that between us," in a low tone. "So it doesn't play in all to well with the fact that it's a Tower," she said with amusement at his own fear. He'd loathed the idea of Ravenclaw and Gryffindor for those very reasons when he was elevn and being sorted. Just a child-hood fear that was something to joke about now.

As they walked, he carried on the conversation by answering her question. "Nothing aside from the usual," he admitted. "Though I wish I was as close to leaving school as my cousin. I like it and all of course, just... am growing tired of it," he said with a chuckle. "And what were you up to, my lovely?"

Melinda moved in the way he led her, why fight it when she was going to exact same way as him anyway. "Well a place I haven't been before is always exciting, sometimes. I mean all bathrooms are the same." Melinda said with a shrug of her shoulders and chuckled a little. When he said he was afraid of height she put her hand over her lips. "My lips are sealed," she said as her hand dropped back to her side walking along with Derek.

As their conversation continued she nodded her head listening. "Well," she paused to think of something good to say. "I have been generally boring, just the usual as well." She laughed at how pathetic that sounded but just shrugged it off and looked at Derek with a grin. "I know what you mean, when I was in fifth year, which wasn't that long ago. I decided I wanted out. I guess when you get the OWLs over Hogwarts is different maybe?" Melinda wasn't even sure believed her own answer.
