WHO: Sally-Anne Perks and Luna Lovegood
WHAT: Making strange milkshakes and House Buddy project
WHERE: Kitchens
WHEN: Thursday evening, after dinner
RATING: PG
STATUS: In Progress/Closed

Sally-Anne was by no means feeling better than the last time she'd come out of her dormitory, except that this time she was sober and not prone to talking about jumping in the lake. Her original plan had been to meet with Luna in several days, but after Pansy had brought her food and chocolate pudding, Sally-Anne had grown restless. She was, of course, greatly appreciative to Pansy, but the food had left her wanting. It was after she'd finished eating that she remembered Luna talking about some odd mixture of things to make a milkshake, and though admittedly some of the ingredients made Sally-Anne's stomach turn, she wanted to make milkshakes with Luna Lovegood.

Perhaps it was reading that Luna's snail had died, or that she just needed a change of scene, but she somehow felt she needed to make the milkshakes with Luna and so, she'd sent the other girl an owl asking her to meet her at the kitchens in twenty minutes. There was a chance that Luna either wouldn't get the owl, or that she'd be busy, but Sally-Anne had decided that if she didn't show she'd just walk around outside in the dark. She could study the stars. They always had a way of making her feel insignificant in a way that she desperately wanted at the moment. But for the time being, she was intent on milkshake making.

Leaving her dormitory with nothing but her wand, Sally-Anne made her way to the kitchens. It didn't take long and Luna wasn't there, but Sally-Anne had left earlier than she'd planned. She let herself into the kitchens, found herself a chair and sat near a small fireplace that she assumed was meant for the Elves to rest in front of when they weren't working. There were several stools nearby, and for a moment Sally-Anne felt sorry for them that they were all the creatures had to rest on, but she pushed the thought from her mind. Instead she set about studying the various Elves as they moved past her, eyeing her curiously, but strangely, none of them said a word to her.

Luna never really had plans because people normally didn’t ask her to do things. She was in good spirits though that day. She ran and enjoyed the nice weather outside before crashing in the grass and just watching the clouds got by for a while. She’d got the owl around dusk and decided that it was time to trudge back toward the castle anyways. She was never good at keeping schedules though. She was easily distracted by this and that along the way. She made it there eventually though and that was the main thing. She might be there on time but she nearly always showed up. That had to count for something.

She wasn’t heartbroken over the death of her slug. It was just a slug after all. She might have felt a short span of guilt over having been the one to crush it with her shoe but she’d lost more ‘pets’ over the course of the years than most people. She was okay. She was concerned about her project partner though and so when she got the owl she took it as a positive sign. If the Slytherin wanted to meet up and make milkshakes maybe she was in better spirits too.

Luna was a mess as she entered the kitchens with pieces of grass mixed in her haphazard blonde hair and her cheeks were red from wind rash. She had a small bag on her shoulder. Her normal school sack but it was full of random ingredients from her truck instead on inkwells and books. One of those distractions along the way had been the Ravenclaw Dormitories. She couldn’t very well make milkshakes without the proper stuff! She’d owled her father days before requesting that he send her a few things. She looked around wondering if Dobby was around. She couldn’t come in the kitchens and not talk to the House Elves. She did rather like them. She thought they were rather intelligent creatures.

“Wotcher Sally!” she called out in hopes of alerting Sally to the fact she’d finally arrived as if it was possible to not know she was there. “I brought all sorts of stuff. ”

It surprised Sally-Anne how pleased she was to hear Luna's voice. She turned to the other girl with a small, somewhat shy smile on her face that was very uncharacteristic for Sally-Anne Perks. "Like jelly fish and firewhiskey?" She asked, hearing Luna say she'd brought 'all sorts of stuff.' She had begun to wonder if Luna would actually show, and now that she had, Sally-Anne realized just how much she'd been hoping to have company.

"I'm sorry about Ron." Sally-Anne said, softly, and even if it didn't trouble Luna very much, the thought of anything dying, even a snail, made Sally-Anne feel somewhat sad. But that was to be expected after the loss she'd endured. Sally-Anne took the time between her words and Luna's response to look the other girl over, and she couldn't help the smile that touched her lips. There was grass in Luna's hair, and it made Sally-Anne wonder what the girl could have possibly been doing.

Luna never acted differently around people. Everyone was on the same page and she liked everyone equally. That was how she treated them anyways. Whether there was any truth to whether or not she actually liked everyone equally was something and she knew alone. Her face filled with excitement as if Sally were her best friend in the universe at the sight of her. "Maybe just jam and firewhiskey. I didn’t think about jellyfish. I could still owl and get some but it would be a couple of days," she admitted on the ingredients. Why Luna had access to all this weird stuff was yet to be seen but it didn’t really matter.

She didn’t so much as look up from her position at the counter extracting items from her bag, the latest item a rather over-sized pineapple at mention of Ron. It didn’t really upset her. It was the circle of life. Things lived and died. It was any wonder Ron had lived as long as he did. “It’s okay,” she said after a moment before adding a solemn, “Sorry about your sister.” That was a real death.

It threw Sally-Anne a bit further than it should have having her sister's death mentioned. She blinked once, her mind going blank, trying to concentrate on what Luna had said before that. It was difficult but she remembered and with a shaky smile she said, "No, it's fine. Happens to everyone right?" There was a very small pause during which Sally-Anne took a deep breath and then she said quickly. "No need to wait for the Jellyfish. We can do fine without."

Falling silent, Sally-Anne stared intently at Luna with her bag and various items. Her hands played with the hem of her shirt and her jaw clenched and unclenched somewhat automatically. All she had to do was concentrate on making the shakes, and Luna's enthusiasm and excitement for everything would surely rub off on her. Or atleast, Sally-Anne hoped so.

“Of course it does,” Luna told her. Death was something that came a bit too easy to her outwardly. That wasn’t to say she didn’t occasionally find herself hurting and wishing she had a mother. She simply knew there was no real point in crying over death. What good came of it? She took to the role of cheering up people who lost loved ones like a duck to water. Maybe it was her purpose in life to go around cheering up people in general. “I was hoping you’d fill that way. Maybe they’ll have some interesting fish in the freezers we can use instead. Squid might provide an interesting flavor. ”

Luna set into motion shoving random things together to be blended. They, of course, were doing things the magical way. It was as easy as a bowl and a spell. She noticed how tense Sally looked but she figured as time went on she’d loosen up. She was never one to tell people how to feel or why they should feel it anyways. There was no point in that. People had a right to feel how they wanted to feel. “What about carrot? You should shove a few in there.”

With a deep breath, Sally-Anne reached for the carrots. Truth be told she'd never really looked at carrots close up, and she suddenly felt it was something she should have done before. Why not? Maybe when she went home for the holidays she would insist on making her own meal. Glancing up, Sally-Anne watched Luna again for a moment, before dropping the carrots into the mixture. "You think this'll taste any good?" She asked, more to herself than anything, though she did speak loud enough for Luna to hear.

"Do you do this a lot?" Sally-Anne was truly curious. She'd always written Luna off as some crazy girl who didn't know what she was doing, but lately she'd gotten the feeling that there was much more to Luna. Luna was nice, she liked Luna and she'd wager that the thoughts running around in Luna's head were probably far more interesting than most.
