Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who; Mandy Brocklehurst and Melinda Bobbin
What; House Buddy Project!
When; Wednesday afternoon [backdated after her entry]
Where; Court Yard
Status; Incomplete

Mandy prepared herself before meeting up with Melinda, she took down some notes of the questions that she was supposed to ask and made her sure had enough room on her parchment for Melinda's answers. Mandy thought this was a brilliant idea, there were loads of students at Hogwarts that she only knew by name and sight. Melinda being one of them, while she thought she was a nice girl, still Mandy didn't know much about her, this was a good way to get to know someone.

Leaving her dorm she made her way down to the court yard, hoping that she wouldn't be late in meeting her. Smiling at a few of the students she passed by, she found a spot, one of the many stone benches, near a fountain. A good spot to sit and talk for a while.

Melinda was rather excited about the house buddy project, it was allowing her to meet someone new, and that was always exciting. The more people she could meet and talk with the better, it was networking as her father said but then again she wasn’t exactly thinking about that. Melly was far more focused on getting to the court yard and asking these questions so that she could meet someone new. It was exciting she barely knew the girls name and only by a small chance did she feel she could notice the girls face.

Rushing from the common room with her bag clung to her shoulder; she had just picked it up from the ground earlier and hoped there was parchment or something in there. She had written the questions down though, and was running them over in her head. They were good questions and good start for meeting someone new. Entering the court yard she managed to pick Mandy out and sat down next to her. “I’m Melinda.”

Mandy saw the girl come up and with a frinedly smile she held out her hand for a formal shake. "Nice to meet you, Melinda. I'm Mandy." Moving over, she offered the girl a seat next to her. "Take a seat." The girl replied with a smile.

"So, I have to tell you I'm glad we were picked for partners, you at least have a good attitude about this, I couldn't imagine trying to do this with someone who probably hated me for no reason."

"Nice to meet you Mandy," she said with a grin and formally shook her hand before taking a seat next to her. "We both have M's in our names," Melinda said with a perky tone to her words. She pulled out a piece of paper and a quill so that she was ready to right down the answers once they got to the questions, as she was in no rush.

"Oh I know, I am so glad I didn't get someone like Millicent. You seem harmless and like you have a good attitude about this whole thing." Melly said cheerfully as she smiled at Mandy. She seemed nice from first appearances.

"That we do, grounds for us having the greatest project ever." The girl replied with a small laugh. Mandy had a good feeling that this project would go very well, Melinda seemed to be someone that was sort of like herself, which was always fun.

"Exactly! I think it's an excellent idea myself. This school is so big and we all tend to hang out our own little groups, I think it's a good way to meet someone new."

“I know, best project you can’t beat the double M’s.” Melinda wasn’t even sure what that meant but it sounded good. Melinda grinned that silly large grin of hers as she shifted in her seat to get comfortable, talking was always better when comfortable. She nodded her head listening to Mandy and she completely agreed. “So true, so true. We all get wrapped up in our own little worlds.” Melinda as already enjoying this and they hadn’t even got to the questions yet.

"Sometimes more often than I would like." Laughing too the feather of her quill and brushed it against her cheek a couple of times, a sign of thinking, before looking back over to Melinda. "Alright then! Should we get this party started? I'd hate for us to get distracted away from the whole reason we're out here." Mandy said with a small laugh.

"Now, I did write the questions down here somewhere, if you know some of them you can ask." She added trying to look through the parchment that she brought.

"Yes we should get this party started," she said with much enthusiasm. "If we got distracted out questions wouldn't be answered and we don't want that to happen." A gentle laugh lefter her lips as she got her quill ready to write, but then realized she needed to remember the questions. "Well I know one of them is what is your full name, so I suppose that is a place to start."

"Alright then, well my full name is Amanda Joy Brocklehurst." Trying to think back to the list she remembered something about if they were named after anyone. "I think there's one if we were named after anyone and I was indeed. Amanda and Joy are both middle names for my greatgrandmum and my grandmum." When Mandy thought about it, she was surprised that picking middle names for her own name worked out, she noticed, that sometimes it didn't always work for people. "I reckon the family is trying to keep Joy in the name somehow, my mum's middle name is Joy also."

Melinda nodded her head showing that she was listening as she marked down Mandy's full name and made a note of who she had been named after. She grinned look at Mandy. "Well I like your name it flows." Melinda wondered if that was a weird thing to say but she didn't dwell on it long because she had to talk too. "Well my full name is Melinda Elizabeth Bobbin. I am named after nobody, well maybe. I know that my mother had a best friend named Melinda but I don't know if I was named after her or not." Melinda shrugged her shoulders as she said this giving a slightly confused unsure face as she finished.

"Here it is!" Mandy said loudly. The girl grinned when she realized she sort of just let out a bust. "Sorry," she replied as she pulled the parchment with the questions on it. Taking her quill she quickly wrote down Melinda's whole name. "Very pretty, I've always loved old names like Elzabeth."

Taking the parchment she handed it to Melinda. "So I guess what's next is, where did you grow up?"

Melinda for a moment had a wide eyed look on her face when Mandy spoke loudly. She of course let her expression fade as she assumed it was the parchment with the questions on it. That would save her from burning her brain from thinking so hard on remembering the questions. "Ah yes, so did my mother. She wanted to be named Elizabeth. She was just named Ruth." Melinda said with a laugh, Ruth and Elizabeth were very different.

Laughing at the next question she thought about it. "Well I grew up in a house. The same house in Sussex where I still live now." Melinda nodded her head as she thought about her home, she missed it despite being trapped in there all summer. "Where did you grow up?"

"I grew up and still live in Staffordshire." Mandy replied, as she nodded to Melinda's answer. Making sure to write that down. "I haven't been in Sussex for a while, my grandparents actually used to live in Hastings. I think that was before I was born though."

Grinning she took the list and looked at the next question. "Alright then, so favorite activity as a child." Mandy tried to think of an activity she did a lot when she was younger before answering. "Well, honestly I think the only activity I ever really did was play Quidditch with my father. 'Course couldn't really play with two people but we'd pass the ball back and forth to each other a lot and he would teach me moves. Either that or play in the woods that was about a mile from our home."

Melinda made a point of writing down Staffordshire and smiled as she looked back up. The next question was good and as she heard Mandy's answer she had that hyper squeal of happiness leave her. "Sorry, but that is just like me. I love quidditch and my father always passed the quaffle about. He is the reason I am keeper." She beamed because she was so excited to have something in common with her project buddy it was just going to make it all that more enjoyable.

"Really? My father always ranted on about how his favorite position was Chaser, which is probably why I've only wanted to be one." Mandy laughed as she smiled at Melinda. Well, they certainly did a excellent job with putting her with Melinda, the two seemed to have a lot in common. "When I wrote to mum and dad and told them I was made Captain, mum wrote that Dad nearly fell over with excitment."

"My father was chaser when he was in school, but he always tried to score on me and I eventually got quite good at saving the quaffle from our make-shift goals." Melinda said with a perky tone, she loved talking about quidditch and her history behind her interest in it. "Though my dad had thought of going professional, he had to take up the family business, which I am potentially getting." She didn't care about the questions that much since she just wanted to get to know Mandy, but the questions were helping steer the conversation.

"I wish I would make captain, but Zach is quite brilliant as captain or at least I think so. Who knows maybe I will get it next year?" Melinda shrugged, a girl could hope couldn't she?
