Who: Katie Bell and Kenneth Towler
What: A Run
Where: Hampstead Heath, London
When: Afternoon.
Rating: TBA
STatus: TBA

Katie wanted to run, it wasn't a bad day for a run either. Plus Katie needed it after last night. She'd gone out and had a bit too much to really think clearly. Plus she needed to get a little bit better shape. Actually Katie was in perfect health, and in great shape... She just wanted to run. Right thinking clearly wasn't working at all. Katie had been running for a good hour, she was getting a little bit tired.

Katie was comfortably slowing down to a job when a ball went flying past her. She managed to jump over it, but she didn't catch her footing as good as she should, mostly because she didn't want to run into the puppy that was pulling its owner to the side towards. Katie felt herself loose her balance. It felt like slow motion, her body turning in the air landing on her back in the grass before rolling down some. Until she hit a pair of legs that seemed to stop her.

Katie looked up laughing slightly. She wasn't upset, or hurt, just a little bit embarrassed. She could feel herself start to blush a little. She couldn't really focus on whoever it was she ran into. She was a little bit too dizzy, and the laughing didn't help.

Hampstead Heath wasn't usually a place that Kenneth chose to go to, but his girlfriend Andrea had canceled their plans for the day and somehow he'd wound up here. It was nice outside, the perfect day for a walk, and he was strolling amiably along, watching the various other people walking around. He'd been inconspicuosly observing a couple fighting some distance away from him when his attention was caught by a dark haired girl nearer him that was gracelessly tripping over a ball. He watched, caught a glimpse of her face, as she fell. Katie Bell was the last person he'd expected to see.

The distance between them was covered easily and the moment he stopped walking her body hit his legs after rolling a bit on the grass after her fall. She was laughing, blushing a bit, in an embarassed way as she looked up at him. Kenneth couldn't help the smile that spread across his face, both because it was quite funny seeing her fall the way she had, and also, he couldn't help the fact that he found her extremely beautiful, always had and simply being in her presence made him smile. Thoughts of his girlfriend were very far from his mind as he chuckled and shook his head at Katie.

"Having a little trouble are we? Would you like some help up?" Kenneth asked, extending his hand in offering.

It took her a moment to figure out who it was, but she was more shocked than anything else. It was sort of strange to see him standing over her smiling. Katie looked up at him blankly for half a second before laughing. "At least you aren't some scary person I rolled into." She said taking his hand and letting him help her up. It was strange what a small world it really was... But that didn't matter too much at the moment, she couldn't really place the last time she saw him.

"Thanks." She said once she was standing. Without thinking much she gave him a quick hug. Katie tended to hug people she hadn't seen in a while, and friends at that. "What are you doing in the area?" She asked tilting her head to the side sort of stunned by him... She always remembered what he looked like, but he looked good. "You look good." She said without thinking about it, she really needed to work on not saying what she was thinking. At the moment though at least she could blame falling, and rolling down a hill.

The moment Katie's arms came around him, Kenneth could feel his face burn. He returned the hug loosely, finding it ridiculous that his heart should suddenly start beating so fast. He stepped away probably too quickly when she released him and looked at the ground nervously, one hand lifting to run through his hair. He tried to answer her first question, found that his voice strangely had decided to leave him momentarily and then smiled at her statement. With a teasing grin he commented, "Perhaps you hit your head when you fell?" There was a short pause and then the words just rushed out of his mouth. "You look really good, too."

Glancing around, blushing again, Kenneth squinted up at the sky for a moment. "I have no idea why I'm in the area. I just wound up here by some luck of fate." He said, glancing at her out of the corner of his eye. A small voice in the back of his head began repeating Andrea's name.

Katie didn't really know why he pulled away so quickly, she just knew that she didn't want to make him uncomfortable. Katie smiled at him all the same. "Nah, if I hit my head on the fall, I'd probably still be on the ground." She said shrugging. She couldn't help but blush when he commented. "Now who is just being nice? I'm the one who just rolled down a hill. I'm not sure anyone can look good after that." She said shrugging slightly. She meant that too. She figured she was sweaty, her hair was a mess, she probably had grass stuck to her, and she was in really old running clothes. No one looked good like that.

"If you came up this way more, you know I might have actually seen you once or twice." She said smiling before glancing down and brushing some grass off of her shirt. She didn't really know what to say. On one hand she felt like she had a lot of questions to ask, on the other hand she didn't really know what to say.

"So... How's life." She really did want to know, she just wished she could find a better way to start a conversation. She just a little bit stunned, and a little bit embarrassed still.

Regaining his composure, Kenneth was able to give her another grin when she commented on how she looked. He thought she looked very good, despite the grass that was stuck to her clothing, and her hair. He watched as she brushed the grass off her shirt. He thought about what she said, about coming her way more so that he could see her and remember what Alicia had said about there possibly being space with them for him to live. The thought made him feel shaky. There was no way he could live in the same flat as Katie Bell, at least not any time soon.

"Hasn't anyone ever told you that a little dirt and grass makes beautiful women even more beautiful?" He said, and this time he didn't allow himself to be embarassed or feel badly about the compliment. She was beautiful, after all. What was the harm in stating it. He was doing a terrible job lying to himself and truthfully he still felt a little bad about it.

"Life is going well. I hear you're living with Alicia." He supplied without giving her details and changing the subject, then gestured a hand away from them. "Are you busy at the moment?" He asked. "Would you care to get something to eat?"

Katie couldn't help but blush, any sort of compliment made her blush. She smiled at him though. "And you are sweet." She said as she watched him for a moment more before looking down slightly. She couldn't stop blushing at all. If she could have, she would have in a heartbeat. He always seemed good at making girls blush, part of her wondered if he knew that.

Had Katie known, or probably paid more attention to Ali's invite of Kenneth moving in with them, she probably would have said something about it along the lines of, of course! She wouldn't mind at all. After all she was pretty easy to live with, so was Alicia, and she loved animals. So in her mind it wouldn't be a problem.

"That's descriptive." She teased with a small poke to his arm. "But, I'm glad to hear it is going well. And yea, Ali moved in not long ago. It's really nice, we have food in the flat." She said laughing slightly. Katie always forgot to go to the store, it was nice to have Ali around, besides having your best mate around all the time was good.

"Unless you call running busy, no I'm not busy. I'd love that." She said about the idea of food. She liked good, she wouldn't eat much right now, but resting with something small and resting... was really sounding good. Besides she wanted to spend time with Kenneth, it'd been to long.

Kenneth of course noticed Katie's blush, but attributed it to the sun, or even her run that she'd finished. He could be rather oblivious at times. Her teasing poke and her agreement to eating made his smile widen. He had never got to spend enough time with Katie in school, so why pass up a chance now? Of course, in school he'd been more awkward around her and less capable of creating coherent sentences, but they weren't in school anymore. "I'd love to see Ali again. The three of us should get together." He suggested. He spent a momemt simply admiring her and then shook his head to clear his thoughts.

"What would you like to eat?" He asked, stepping in the direction of the streets where there several small cafes. "It's my treat."

Katie was all about hanging out with people she'd known in school, and she always liked Kenneth, he was always someone she enjoyed spending time with. She really didn't notice him not being about to 'speak' around her or at least make sense, she just never worried about it, and most of the time she got what he was saying. But now they were all older and things had changed, times had changed. "I'm sure she'd love it. It'd be fun. You should stop by for dinner sometime. It's pretty easy to find us both, seeing as we live together." She said smirking with a small shrug.

Katie got a thoughtful look on her face. "Um. I don't know, I know the second cafe on the right is pretty good." Katie did love their salads. "But I might have to argue on the your treat part" She said smiling. She didn't want to make him feel like he had to pay, but she wouldn't argue past that either though. "You don't have to do that."

The idea of seeing Alicia again, in addition to spending more time with Katie made Kenneth somewhat excited. "Of course I'll come to dinner some time. Just let me know when." He said, watching first Katie and then the street with the cafes. He inspected the signs from a distance trying to judge which one as Katie spoke. A grin broke out on his face and he turned to her.

"You are not paying. What kind of a gentleman would I be if I let the lady pay?" Kenneth asked, still grinning. "You said that one is good?" He pointed in the direction of the cafe she mentioned. "As soon as you're ready, let's go."

"I'll talk to Ali about it tonight and give you a couple of nights to pick from." She said grinning. It'd be really nice to have him for dinner, they needed to more dinner stuff anyone, Ali and Katie that is. They needed to have more people over now that they lived together.

Katie blushed slightly as he mentioned being a gentleman. "Well you have always been a gentleman." She said smiling at him. "Alright, I wont fight it, at least this time. Next time however... watch out." She said grinning with a small giggle. Katie wasn't a typical giggle a lot type of girl, but when she was slightly nervous she'd giggle.

"I'm ready." She said smiling turning to start towards the cafe. "So, besides life being well, tell me what's been going on!"

It'd been a long time since Kenneth had spent any amount of quality time with anyone he'd gone to school with and the thought of doing so with Katie and Alicia made him rather pleased. For a split second he thought of asking if he could invite his girlfriend, but then felt extremely awkward. He was almost positive he'd mentioned to Andrea his crush on Katie while at Hogwarts. That would probably put a huge damper on an excited situation. Which meant that he might have to simply tell Andrea he was having friends with some old classmates, and not mention names.

The comment about him being a gentleman caused him to blush only slightly. He didn't really see it as doing anything special, he'd simply been raised to show women the utmost respect and to take care of them - such as paying, or opening doors. But Katie's giggle made his blush deepen. It was simply adorable. He began to follow her as she led the way to the cafe.

"Life? Well, nothing much. I've been working for a professor at a Muggle university nearby. Grading papers isn't all that fun, but the lectures are wonderful. It's about history, and lately we've been doing several on the folklore of magic. It's amazing how Muggles percieve those of us who live in the magical world. All based on myth and legend and most is completely inaccurate." Kenneth stopped abruptly, realizing he was rambling. "And that must sound completely boring, I'm sorry."

Katie didn't even really know that Kenneth had a girlfriend, if she did she'd probably offer to invite her. But seeing as she really didn't know he had a girlfriend, and hadn't read the conversation between Ali and Kenneth, and Ali never mentioned it to her how could she know? Katie probably didn't really want to know that he had a girlfriend, well that wasn't a problem because as far as she knew, he didn't. So why worry about something that wasn't even known.

Katie smiled as he started to talk about his life. She actually found it sort of interesting, really though she found it interesting that he found it so interesting and was excited about it. Katie raised a hand shaking her head. "No, it isn't boring, besides it isn't everyday I take to someone who loves history that much." It was true Katie spent most of her time talking to Ali about whatever strange thing Ali thought was important that moment, or Quidditch. That was the extent of it. She always had to enjoy Quidditch though.

As she lead them towards the cafe she smiled as one of the waiters recognized her. The older man smiled and merely pointed to a table outside before muttering something about being over in a few seconds. Katie looked to Kenneth with a small blush. "So I've eaten here once or twice." She said shrugging slightly. "So what do they think about the magical world?" She asked not knowing.

Kenneth laughed, "Really? My longwided talks about history and all of that don't want you to fell asleep from bordom?" His laughter subsided and he got a thoughtful look on his face. "Do you enjoy history?" He asked. He knew very little about what Katie liked to do, other than Quidditch.

As they walked, Kenneth noticed the friendly way in which she greated the older man, one of the waiters, and he mimicked her in smiling. She'd obviously been here before. The man had recognized her. When they finally sat and Katie looked over, blushing very faintly, Kenneth had no idea why.

"Is the food good?" He asked, and then didn't give her a chance to respond as he answered her other question. "Well, it's amazing you know, the way muggles think about magic. They just don't think it exists. There are a few in the classes that say they believe, but you can that they're not convinced. They think it's just a bunch of old fairytales written to explain the disappearances of children, or for thing've gone wrong." Kenneth paused to take a breath before continuing. "But it is interesting how, most of the students believe in black magic, but not in the same sense we do. Not with wands, but small incantations and mixed herbs and things like that. It's very complicated, and here I am hogging all the attetnion again." Kenneth finished, his cheeks burning pink.

Katie watched him carefully. "Yea, I like history. Can't say I spend as much time with it as you do, but I've always liked it." She said shrugging. "And no you aren't putting me to sleep at all." She was serious too, she wouldn't have asked Questions about it if she hadn't been interested at all.

Katie tended to blush when she was around men she found good looking. It wasn't something she could really help. She always did that sort of thing, really when it was a little bit embarrassing how much she came to this place. Katie tried to tell herself it wasn't anything to worry about at all.

Katie would have told him yes, but he launched into the history bit, she didn't really get the chance to say anything about it. However she did let a small smile grow into a big smile watching him. It was pretty clear he really enjoyed it. It reminded how little she'd really read recently. She didn't have a lot of time for it, and when she did she tended to want to be around her mates or just rest... Or read about Quidditch.

"Not at all. It's really fascinating to see what other people think about different worlds. Just imagine what sort of worlds we probably know nothing about." She shrugged for a moment. So maybe it was a bit of a stretch, but muggles had no idea really about the magical world, what did the magical world not know about? It was something she'd thought about once or twice.

Kenneth grinned. "I doubt anyone aside from historians spends as much time with it as I do." He agreed, glad that she wasn't bored. He had a tendency to go off on tangents about the things he enjoyed or liked, without any thought as to if the person listening would care at all. The look on his face turned serious.

"It's a bit terrible sometimes the way they all say there's no possible way magic could ever exist. And there I am, just sitting with them, trying to teach them different legends and myths where magic is mentioned, and all they do is disbelieve. It really makes me want to bring out my wand and do a good spell for them, but you know, we can't. Personally, I only think a small amount of them would even be able to process it correctly, understand and accept it. The others would remain in denial." Kenneth suddenly sneezed, interrupting his train of thought and for a second a bewildered look settled on his face.

"You know, how about we eat then?" He suggested, his face a little red. "And you know, I agree with you about their being worlds we know nothing about."

Katie couldn't help but smile as he looked happy about it. Katie didn't mind people going off on what they loved, when it came to her mates it made her feel a bit better, it meant that he really did care about something outside of the things people normally seemed to care about. Katie liked that.

"I don't blame them though, it'd be a little bit hard to stretch to something that in a lot of cases is discouraged. Besides, I think it would be sort of hard to believe it you know? The same way some things would be hard for pureblooded of our world to understand.... Like the point of a phone. As logical it may sound, the technology behind it would be confusing. The tube? Totally confusing." She said shrugging slight with a small shrug.

"God-bless-you." She said quickly without even thinking about it. She smiled at him again. For some reason Katie felt oddly comfortable talking to him.

Once he had recovered from his slight embarassment over sneezing so suddenly and mumbling his thanks for Katie's 'bless-you' Kenneth tipped his head to the side thoughtfully. "You know I never thought of it that way before. How confusing it might be for them to understand, on both sides. I guess just growing up around Muggle stuff I never really considered all of that. Suppose I should have though, right? I mean, I did, but never really gave it much deep thought." He laughed slightly as yet again, he rambled.

He was on the verge of saying something else when the waiter finally arrived at their table. Kenneth, who had completely forgotten to even ask Katie what she would suggest was good to eat, gave the man an apologetic smile and asked if he could return in a few minutes. As the man walked off, Kenneth turned to Katie with another smile and asked, "So, what should I get?"

Katie watched him as he seemed to recover for lack of a better way to think about it. She nodded at his thank you and merely listened as he spoke. It was nice that he was easy to talk to, that he could talk about something that wasn't about Katie playing Quidditch or any of the things people normally talked to her about. Minus Ali of course, Ali would talk about almost anything.

"I guess you have something to think about now.. hmm?" She said laughing slightly. Katie would be very happy with herself if she game him something to think about, it was probably silly and not something that really mattered but it'd make her happy.

Katie grinned at the waiter. "That depends on what you are in the mood for... The Pesto Penna is really good, the salads are all really good too." She said shrugging slightly. Katie didn't even need to look at the menu it was sort of sad.

"Just so long as it's free of any form of animal product." Kenneth said, grabbing the menu just for the fun of it. He glanced up at Katie and nodded. "And yes, you've given me something to think about. Thank you." He said, a grin playing at his lips. His eyes perused the menu for only a moment before he snapped it down on the table.

"It's decided then. I'll get the Pesto Penna and a salad." He said with a matter of fact tone. He noted that she wasn't looking at the menu, but chose not to comment on that. Instead he leaned forward slightly and said in a mock whisper, "But I've been telling you all my secrets from the Muggle side of the world, Katie. What have you been doing on your side?"

Katie smiled at him. She liked the idea of giving him something to think about, she wasn't sure why, but she did. Katie nodded slightly. "Glad to hear it." She said softly. Katie was sort of glad that he didn't comment on the fact she wasn't looking at the menu it made it easier.

"Good choice." She said smiling at him. Katie wasn't sure what he was doing when he leaned forward but she smiled all the same.

"I don't know Mr. Towler, I like the idea of finding out about your muggle life. What makes you think I'll you about my magical life?" She asked. Katie was of course joking mostly.

"Well, I suppose if you don't, I could just slip some Veritaserum into your drink when you're not looking, and then you'd spill all your secrets to me." Kenneth said, his grin widening. He leaned back, drumming his fingers on the table and tipped his head to the side.

"Besides, we can't have you running back to the magical world telling them there are people who live without magic. I've got to get some sort of collateral to make sure the secret's kept safe." Kenneth said, trying to keep his face serious. He couldn't help it when he failed though and once he started joking, it was hard to stop.

Katie couldn't help but laugh slightly. "Careful, you do that to me, I'll do the same to you." She said smirking at him. Katie didn't know why he made her smile so much. It was nice though.

"I'll run straight to Ali and get her to spread the word everywhere." She teased of course. It was really nice to have a nice less serious conversation. Katie still was nervous about how Oliver felt about her move to the Magpie's but that wasn't such a big deal anymore.

"Hmm. Fine." She said rolling her eyes teasing him slightly. She reached into the pocket in her workout pants pulling out a single earring. "There."

"Hey! It isn't just some normal tiny little earring, it's meaningful to me." She said shrugging. Sure it sound a little bit weird but it really did matter to her. Something that little and that confusing. She was a bit odd.

He meant what he'd said about her not needing a truth serum. In reality, there was probably nothing he could keep from Katie. One smile from her, and one prompting question and he'd spill his entire soul for her. Of course, he didn't want her to know that, hence his sudden change of subject.

"Worthy collateral to the secrets of the Muggle world?" Kenneth asked skeptically. "It looks too small to be worth so much." He said, a grin on his face.

"Why's it so special?" He asked, his tone more serious now.

Katie of course didn't know that, she wouldn't know that he'd probably tell her anything. It was hard not to be calm around him though. She smiled at him thought all the same.

"Yea. It is." She said shrugging slightly. Katie laughed slightly, it was a little bit odd though.

"Well, it was a gift from a childhood friend, and I lost the other one about 7 years ago." She told him shrugging slightly. Yea, probably not the best reason, but she hadn't seen that friend since the day he'd given her the earrings.

"And do you keep it with you always?" Kenneth asked, truly curious. He'd never really had anything that he held such value for. It was, cute, for lack of a better term, that she cared so much about it.

It seemed that Katie's mood had slightly been dampered and he wondered why. He didn't ask though, deciding it was none of his business. "It's not such a bad habit to have. At least there's meaning behind it." He offered.

Katie was glad he didn't ask her about it, she wasn't in the mood to talk, and it was a little bit more complicated than that for her. She wasn't sure how to explain it all either though.

"Than that wouldn't be your fault." She said smiling. Honestly it'd probably be good for her to let go, even if it wasn't as easy as it seemed it should be.
