WHO: Teddy & Megan WHAT: Celebrating at Leanne's party WHEN: Backdated to the weekend before Christmas RATING: PG STATUS: Done
Teddy was glad he had decided on going to Leanne's Christmas party. Even though the holidays still felt empty without Angus around, it helped having so many friends near. The Slytherin had never thought he'd have so many mates, but it felt nice to have new faces in his life. For that, he had eagerly pushed for Draco and Pansy to attend though he didn't know if they would, even for Leanne's sake. However, he was determined to have a good time. He had even managed to drag Ernie out. That was a feat and Teddy certainly wasn't going to waste his efforts. Hence, when Ernie slipped off to play polite guest, Teddy's eyes searched the room for someone he knew. "Megan?" He called. "Hullo! Over here!" He called through the crowd.
Megan was excited for the party. She certainly liked them and it was great that it was a holiday party that Leanne was hosting. She didn't know Leanne, just knew her name and that she was the daughter of a Death Eater; however, she was grateful that Leanne was so open to hosting a party with people she hardly knew. She was there to have a great time. She sipped some punch and was looking around for someone she knew when she heard her name. As soon as she turned around she spotted Teddy and headed his direction. "Hello, Teddy! How are you?"
He smiled as he finally caught up with her and kissed her cheek. "I'm well," he said politely. "How are you? Enjoying yourself?"
"Excellent! I am enjoying myself. Are you?" Megan asked. "Would you like some punch? We could go get some. I'm almost done with mine."
Teddy laughed as she prattled on about punch. "I'd love some, thank you." He linked his arm through hers, helping her to navigate the crowd. "Here, we are. Which kind do you want? The red stuff? Or the green stuff? Ah, how appropriate."
"Isn't it? The red stuff is good. Haven't had the green. I'll go with that." Megan said. "Which do you want. As I said, the red is good. Very tasty. And Christmas-y. Are you ready for Christmas, Teddy?"
There she went with her question fired at length. Teddy loved it. He scooped up the green for her and then the red for himself. "I'll trust your judgment." He stepped away from the table so that others could get at the punch. "Ready as I'll ever be!" He called over their heads to Megan. "You? Big plans?"
"Not really." Megan said as she drank her green punch. "Probably spend time with dad and my younger siblings. So you're ready. Any big plans yourself?"
"Time with Mum and the Malfoys," he responded. "Draco and Pansy are planning a small Christmas wedding before their big one after the baby's born." Finally able to get back next to Megan, he held up his cup. "Tasty. Nice choice, Megan."
Megan grinned. "Green's not so bad either. If you want that one next, I highly recommend it. I bet they're excited. I know I'd probably be when I have my own wedding. And it's Christmas, the perfect time."
How did she switch so many thoughts? Teddy didn't think his brain processed enough at once to say so much. Grinning at the thought, he tossed his empty cup into a nearby wastebasket. "Maybe soon. I don't wish to be in the loo all night, yeah? Unless, of course, you want to get rid of me?"
She shook her head. "No, wouldn't want to do that. Who else would I talk to if that happened?" She finished her second cup of punch. "So what now? Want to explore with me, see what all is here?"
"Aw, you like talking to me?" He kidded as he nodded. "We can be rabid explorers together."
Megan stuck her tongue out. "Yes! I do consider you my friend after all! Exciting. Let's go explore." Yaxley Manor was quite large and there were many rooms that they had access to. Megan had never been in anything big like this, save Hogwarts which was a whole lot larger than this little manor.
Large, impressive Manors were nothing to Teddy given how he had grown up, but it was still nice to see Megan was excited for it. He only hoped the Ministry hadn't missed anything dark in one of its many searches. He somehow guessed they were safe, but he did have to wonder anyway. "I think this is my first time here," he said. "My father was..." He cleared his throat, "Involved with Mr. Yaxley, but I don't think he ever brought me."
"Oh." Megan hadn't known that; although she had known that the Yaxley name had been associated with the Death Eaters. "It seems like a very nice house." She wasn't sure what else she could say and she didn't want to say anything wrong.
Teddy noticed that Megan suddenly quieted down and he frowned. Had he said something to make her...
"It is," he said quickly on realizing bringing up his father's ties to others probably wasn't the best idea. "You should see where I grew up sometime, yeah?"
"I'd love that. I bet it is just as big and a gorgeous place." Megan said with a grin. "Probably more fascinating than my grandparents boring old house."
Teddy led her into a more private area of the mansion. It was adorned with older paintings and vases, but one of Teddy's favorite areas. He loved antiques; they made history come alive. "I don't know about that. Are they magical? Or muggle? Either way, grandparents can have the best things. I never really knew mine, but sometimes I'd visit my mates'. I like the smell." He blushed. "That sounds rather silly, doesn't it?"
"Both magical. Didn't have much exposure to magic until we moved in with them after mum left. These things," Megan said pointed to the paintings and vases. "They don't very much matter in their house. My grandparents do have a lot of land and woods with a little clearing. I begged my Aunt Gwen to teach me to fly when I was little." Flying with her aunt had been some of the best memories living there for most of a decade. "It doesn't sound silly at all, Teddy. They do have quite a likable smell."
"Learning to fly from a pro," Teddy teased as he reached out to touch Megan's elbow as she gestured to the heirlooms. "I suppose that's better than any object anyway."
"I think the people we know are more important than objects. And she did teach me to fly after months of begging." Megan told him.
Teddy nodded his agreement. It was certainly people he missed over things. "Begging, hmmm? She wasn't just dying to have you follow in her footsteps?"
Megan shook her head. "No. She's not really a people person and she certainly didn't want a seven year old hanging about when she had try-outs to work towards. However, she did have me follow in her footsteps to some extent. Aunt Gwen taught me how to be a Beater."
Teddy laughed. "Not a people person, huh? I suppose that makes having fans difficult for her?"
"She likes having fans, but she'd rather keep them at a distance." Megan said. "She tends to be rather impatient with them. Even to her own teammates at times, but then she wants to win too."
"Sounds like Draco," Teddy replied thoughtfully. "Can't help loving them though, can we?"
"No, we can't." Megan told him. "So whose your favorite Quidditch team?"
Teddy didn't miss a beat. "Yours, naturally!"
"Thanks," Megan blushed. She loved being on the Arrows. "But if I wasn't on that team, who then? Still be the Arrows?"
Teddy shrugged. "I like it well enough, but I guess I was never as into it as some of the other blokes." Nudging her with his toe, he asked, "Still like me?"
"Oh." Megan responded. She could understand not being as into Quidditch as other people, although she was really into Quidditch, knowing that it wasn't for everyone. "Why wouldn't I like you?"
"Just teasing, don't worry."
"I'm not worried." Megan grinned. "Well, I'm glad that your favorite team is the one I'm on."
"I'm just glad you hang around a silly bloke like me." Teddy held his arm out. "Shall we get back to the party?"
"You aren't silly. You are fun bloke to hang out with." Megan took his arm. "Probably should. Are we even supposed to be in here?"
Teddy shrugged as she accepted his arm. "Aren't Slytherins supposed to break the rules?"
"I don't know. I think you'd know the answer to that question more than me."
Pulling her out toward the dance floor, Teddy raised his eyebrows. "Well, Draco was always better at that than me, but I can be mischievous."
