tonks and cissa
WHO: Narcissa and Tonks WHAT: Bonding! WHERE: Shops RATING: PG STATUS: DONE
very</i> picky about such matters, but she supposed it was all part of bonding, right? "Well, alright," she agreed cautiously. "Just nothing too...well, vintage." She said the last with a little smirk.
She snorted merrily in amusement and shook her head. "Nothing vintage." In fact..still, holding on to the pink dress robes, Tonks was taking a look around. And pointed to a set that she saw not too far off. Pointed, and then hurried over to. It was an attempt to put a modern day spin on robes, with short sleeves and short hemline. So she was looking over at Cissa sideways, grinning. "This?"
Narcissa blinked at the...thing her niece was holding. "Dear...I don't think you want to see my legs. Some things are better left out of the light, you know."
"Come on, Aunt Cissa. It's rather nice-looking! And besides, you're a gorgeous woman and you know it." Her eyebrows lifted yet again, this time in hopefulness that Narcissa would go along with it. Only cheerful cajoling came from her niece though, because it was all supposed to be in sport anyway.
"Well, I think I look rather nice for my age..." Narcissa looked over Tonks' selection before letting out a small laugh. "Why not? Just not photographs please!"
"No photographs." She promised with a wink and then was pulling off the robes in what she guessed was Narcissa's size. Since it was shorter, Tonks didn't even have to worry about tripping over the hems while carrying it! Quick bob of her head was given, so that Cissa would follow her to the dressing rooms. "It's been forever since I've just been shopping like this!" She paused, amending that comment. "For something that didn't include books or music." Which led her to her next subject. "What hobbies are you into, Aunt Narcissa?" It was nice to know these things for things such as birthdays and holidays, after all.
Narcissa gave the robes one last look before reluctantly pushing her own off. "Hobbies?" It was funny being asked outright. She had never really thought on it; she just did things. "Well, planning galas and other events, naturally. Reading, I suppose." She smiled warmly. "No one has ever really asked me...what sort of music are you into, dear?" She asked as she tugged the new robes on.
She pushed off her own clothes as well, muffled for a moment as she tugged the robes over her head. "Oh! I love rock and roll. And the Beatles, of course. I think Dad would disown me if I said anything different." She laughed and was trying to look over, curious about the reading. "What do you read? And your party planning is really the best I've ever seen." It was especially nice since Narcissa always managed to have something that everyone would like.
"Rock and roll?" Narcissa repeated. "Do we have that in Wizarding music?" She blushed at her niece's praise about the parties, but she was really quite proud. "I've always considered doing it for pay," she confessed, "But, you know, life got in the way." She studied her reflection in the mirror and burst out laughing. "Oh, Merlin, look at me! What a foolish woman!"
"We do! The Weird Sisters? Which are like my favourite band. Them and David Bowie, who I'm still convinced is secretly a wizard. Him and Madonna." She thought about that and then grinned, getting ideas for gifts. Tonks was contemplating single-handedly bringing Narcissa into the latest and greatest of music. Of course, Bowie and Madonna were more eighties..but hey. "Have you considered it now? I mean, Draco's all grown up and such. Might be something fun." Suggested as she came out in the pink frock as well so Narcissa could see. "I want to see-- Oh! You look gorgeous!" Even without Metamorphmagus blood, Tonks knew she'd look damn good as she got older. Check out her aunt and mother.
The idea of a career both excited and terrified Narcissa. On one hand, she still felt it wasn't a woman's place, but on the other she saw Kaleigh and Andromeda and nearly envied them for their independence. "I'm not sure Lucius would like it," she said slowly all the while wondering who Madonna and David Bowie were. "Besides I'm not exactly your age anymore, darling."
"You're as young as you feel, Aunt Cissa." Chided in playfulness. But it was true. Which was why she had sometimes thought she was far too old in more difficult times and acted much younger in the better times. "And I still think you look fantastic." Firm nod given, Tonks grinned a little and did a bit of a twirl in the robes she was trying on. "Me though? I feel a little awkward." She kept fidgeting.
"Awkward?" Narcissa exclaimed. "Whatever for? It is simply darling!" She stepped up to Tonks, tapping her in the back to make her stand straighter. "Posture is important," she explained. "Oh, look at the colors! They really compliment your skin."
The tap on the back had her laughing, half because it was funny and half because somehow it tickled. So there she was, standing straighter, and quirked her mouth in a little bit of a confused manner. "Why is posture so important? Although I suppose any bit of height helps." She looked at herself in the mirror again and then over to her aunt. "Now, if only I had a fancy party to wear this to.." Hint, hint. Though she was still fidgeting every now and again. It was just a little odd was all, so she was trying to get used to it. "I should try another one on, that way we know which one's perfect." And because trying on things, at least, was sort of fun. It was like changing hair colours! With clothes.
Narcissa beamed, showing she was fully on board with such a plan. She could spend all day shopping! It had been the only pitfall to never having a daughter. Draco had rather loathed shopping for garments. "Well, then, off with it! I bet they're going to be ALL perfect. We'll simply have to take them all home!" She pulled the next robe off its hanger, her lips pursing as she considered Tonks' earlier question. "Good posture, dear, alludes confidence. You want that, don't you?"
Tonks laughed, eyeballing her aunt in both amusement and concern. "I really couldn't, Aunt Cissa." But she did accept the next robe and was back in the dressing room, her voice muffled as material went over her head. "And if I had any more confidence, I'd be bordering into big head territory!" There was a brief grumble as there was something about this dress robe that was tricky, and then she came out of the dressing room again. She was schlumped over and heavy-footing it out the few steps. And grinning impishly while just watching Narcissa's reaction. The outfit would be nice on her though, deep blue set against pale skin, if she stood up like a normal person.
Narcissa frowned as she heard what seemed like groaning. "You alright, dear?" She asked as Dora returned. "Oh, look at that!" Narcissa clasped her hands, smiling happily. "Look, look!"
She blinked, not expecting that reaction at all, and turned toward the mirror to actually take a look at herself. "Well, look at that." She snickered a little.
Turning back to Narcissa, Tonks smiled a little sheepishly and smoothed her hands over the fabric? "Do you like it? I mean it's so..fancy! And I'm not very and--" She trailed off there, chuckling at herself. "I'm just worried I'm going to wear it out and then spill some sort of food or drink on it you know?"
"Nonsense. That's what charms are for. Besides, you'll need something wonderful for the wedding." Narcissa smiled happily. "Let me get them for you? Please?" She desperately wanted to do something for the niece she had neglected to give gifts to for 20 odd years.
She laughed then and nodded, "Thank you Aunt Cissa!" It wasn't that they were fancy that touched Tonks. It was simply still amazing that they were at the point where they could go out shopping together now. It was a long ways away from where they had once been. Smiling happily, she reached over and hugged Narcissa in thanks.
