Despite his annoyance over the Slytherin who refused to pose for him, Colin arrived at the Halloween Feast "fully loaded" so to speak. He had not only his best wizarding camera, but his muggle one as well. His pockets were stuffed with film and the bag over his shoulder contained a stand, parchment, and quills. He had gotten some strange looks, but Colin was used to it. He was taking his duty of yearbook photographer very, very, very seriously and no amount of ribbing or silly looks was going to stop him. Heck, even Professor Snape was going to pose! Colin was well on his way to getting every single Hogwarts member photographed and he wasn't going to let anyone shy away from him! Memories! It was all about the memories!

He had barely finished eating when he bid his fellow Gryffindors goodbye to hunt down some fresh subjects.

SNAP! "Thanks, Jess!" Colin grinned and waved frantically from behind his lens.

Halloween was always fabulous, no matter what. And at least at this point, her melancholy over half her friends leaving the school was starting to wane away. Sure, she was still sad that Michael or Terry or anyone wasn't around anymore, but that's where the rest of the people still at school came in. So she pushed all the thoughts away and just enjoyed a Halloween feast.

She'd been sitting with a roommate, talking about the feast on the year before when she had stupidly slipped on jellybeans in the commonroom when her roommate nudged her in one side. Jess followed her gaze and suddenly something flashed in her face.

She might have yelled if she hadn't heard Colin's voice. "Not a problem," she said, blinking slightly. "Although you probably caught me with my mouth gaping open or something. Not a problem at all!"

If she was being sarcastic, Colin missed it completely. He was just so happy he got his perfect shot! "It was BRILLIANT!" He rushed to her side to show her the moving photo of her eating and chatting away. He patted his muggle one, silently thanking it for its luck. He simply wished he could actually use the darn thing at Hogwarts. He loved the wizarding photographs, but there was something to be said for the greatest still shot.

He ignored some girls ducking away as he plopped next to Jess. He'd get them another time. "Do you like it?" He asked eagerly.

Jess had to throw them all glares as they moved away. For the love of God, it was just a bleeding picture. Nobody seemed to be helping the yearbook go on just because the idiots acted like the camera was a snake. She didn't say anything to them, though, so after that glare, she turned back toward Colin and looked at her picture.

Well.. even if the picture showed she chewed with her mouth open, she DID like how her new hair looked. "Congrats, Colin. Only you can make something ghastly look magnificent," she joked, momentarily pausing to lick a finger that had accidentally dipped into her mashed potatoes.

Colin never even considered such a thing as embarrassing so he never understood why others got so fed up with his hobby. He thought capturing life was beautiful, especially since they had experienced such dark times. Wasn't life worth celebrating?

"You are not ghastly!" He argued. "You look wonderful! Look at how the light captured you here..." He pointed to the picture. "Oh, er, sorry, keep eating," he added on seeing her lick her finger.

"'shallright," she mumbled. Because clearly, Jess had no inclination of acting lady-like. She'd do as she pleased. Plus, her mouth wasn't ENTIRELY full of food. After swallowing that piece, she grabbed a handkerchief and wiped her hands clean before turning in her seat to face Colin. "That's your work, Colin. Pictures only look good according to how talented the photographer is."

Colin blushed at the compliment. Despite how badly he wanted to succeed at his hobby, he wasn't entirely sure others actually cared about it. Did anyone outside his family actually think he had talent? It meant much that Jess said so. "Thanks," he nearly whispered, looking down at the table. However, despite how embarrassed he felt, he wasn't one to dwell too long. Looking up excitedly he asked, "Are you all ready for Quidditch then? We're still going to win, but you lot need to bring it on anyway!"

	Jess laughed. She wasn't in Quidditch, but hell, any sport was still feckin' brilliant and worth the thought of challenging the other team. "Sorry, mate, but Ravenclaw's going to take it. I know you're in denial, but that's the truth." She reached out and patted his hand in mock-sympathy. "It's okay. I'll share my cookies with you, just to cheer you up!" Colin shook his head frantically. "Nuh uh! I hear our team is better than ever." He paused. "Though how that can be true with Harry Potter gone..." Thinking about his hero always made Colin a tiny bit sad. It had been hard to see Harry go. "Ginny's a right good captain though." He finally flung his backpack to the ground at his feet. "But I'll share my cookies too. We should shake on it." He stuck his hand out.

Jess tilted her head at Colin in thought. After a pause, she smiled broadly. "Let's make it better, hmm? How about, I share my cookies.. or you share your camera? For a whole day?" She had an artistic eye, indeed, but she didn't get nearly as much experience with a camera as she did with charcoal or pastel crayons or just a pencil and sketchbook. Plus, she was already getting ideas of what she'd like to take snapshots of... when was the last time she'd gone out to the edge of the lake?

	Jess raised an eyebrow at him. "I've used a camera before, you know. I'm not going to treat it like a quaffle or something." The fact of the matter was that she hadn't used one in a while and she did miss taking photographs. "If it makes you feel better. It could be on the weekend so we can spend an ENTIRE day together. 	He had the good sense to feel abashed at her words, but her compromise made him feel loads better. "See? Win-win then. You can touch..." He made a great show of displaying the camera. 	Jess laughed. "Oh, Colin. Would I ever do something that would land us in trouble?" Except maybe the two or three times she had thrown punches at a Slytherin calling her a Mudblood.
