Who: Millicent Bulstrode and DOM Official. What: Veritaserum Interview. When: Sometime late at night, she's interviewed Where: MOM in the DOM (lol?) Rating/Status: Complete/Closed/PG-13
Millicent had a small bag of sprig with her, she was nervous and constantly watched the time to make sure she was doing things right. Her stomach was tense and she hadn't ate anything all day, so thinking of eating the sprig, as unhealthy as that probably was, made her stomach growl. The time had come for the first of three sprigs, she ate it down and then a few minutes later the second.
Her eyes watched the clock and her other co-workers come in and out until it was her turn, she noticed that they came early and she shoved the last in her mouth and hoped it would work for her. A man and woman escorted her to the interviewing room and she set down with the Veritaserum in front of her.
She felt sick to her stomach, even thought of crying, but she refused as the crying was for later when no one was looking.
The man across from her gestured for her to take the Veritaserum, she swallowed it. It had a horrid taste and she made a face as it seemed to stay in her mouth.
"We'll ask a few questions."
Millicent nodded.
"What color is this pen?" He raised a green pen.
Millicent said straightly, slowly,"..Green."
"What is your name?"
"Millicent Violetta Bulstrode." She said slowly, evenly but nervously.
"Good, are you ready for this interview?"
"No." Millicent said, knowing right away that she had messed up Severus' directions, her heart was racing.
"Hahaha, it's alright. It's not that bad." Millicent was so relieved that he hadn't asked why.
"Why did you want to work here?"
"...I wanted to explore difficult, magical puzzles. This is the core place to do that and I do not like people. I am judged by my skills and not my personality or how I look." Millicent said with much insecurity in her statement. The man in front of her was looking over his paper and checking boxes, which only made her want to see.
"Why do you attempt to do things knowing that you could be in harm's way? The incident in the Veil Chamber with Croaker, where you reprimanded him for his insolence and cowardice." Millicent frowned.
"By fearing which we do not know, we are not doing our job as an Unspeakable. He was idiotic in his fear." Millicent actually believed they would not ask her about her secret now, her stress was partially relieved.
"In school, you were in Slytherin along with close relatives of Death Eaters and I believe your father was one or accused of being one. One of your brothers was confirmed. What are your connections to them now?" Millicent rolled her eyes.
"My family is pureblooded and their connection to Death Eaters or Lord Voldemort is not my choice or decision. As a child, I was told to make connections with them for their pureblood and their ranks in society. I buckled under peer pressure and did their wants and wishes, lashing out to remain in their good graces. I care nothing for their opinions of me and I am my own person." She said slowly, but sternly.
The man nodded looking over his last question,"Do you have any secrets"
Millicent refused to answer and felt a pain in her chest, she was clearly upset,"Yes, I do..."
"What is it, exactly?"
Millicent frowned,"...I am a parselmouth, no one else in my family, just me."
The man looked shocked, frustrated and annoyed. "Why did you not put this on your application?"
"You would judge me based on what I am and not what I can do. Only one person knows that I am a parselmouth, I've never told anyone else." She said straightly, breathing heavily and tears coming from her eyes. Millicent had lost her strength in front of her superiors.
"That's understandable, but granted your position, I would have made this clear before we hired you. Why are you crying?" Her superior said coldly.
"I want to remain here at this place and further my education of magic. I know what you see me as and I am not that person." Millicent tried wiping her eyes with her sleeves. The man was conversing with two others in the back of the room, it seemed to take them forever to talk before the one approached her again with a emotionless face.
"Until we decide what to do with you, Millicent, you are on leave with pay. You may leave now."
Millicent wiped her face and left the room, leaving the Department of Mysteries and going straight home.
