Who: Megan Jones & Susan Bones (hey their last names rhyme! don't judge me for just noticing) What: Talking When: Afternoon, a couple days after Katie's death Where: Their place Rating: Gish Status: Complete
Megan was actually at the flat she shared with Susan for once. Between being a reserve Beater and studying under a Herbologist didn't leave her all that much time there as both of them kept her busy. It was a busy that she actually liked, unlike in school when being busy at school was not fun. Originally Megan would have been at practice, but it was canceled on account of the death of Katie Bell. Although it was a completely different team, the managers of the Arrows wanted to ensure the safety of their players on the pitch. Since it was a practice day, it wasn't a study day. Instead, Megan spent a good portion of her day in the tiny kitchen baking sweets. There was no way that her and Susan could eat them all, and she was making an awful lot, she'd just have to send them to other people. Ernie could use some. So could a bunch of other people.
Opening the door of their apartment with a tired sigh, Susan's expression immediately brightened as the smell of freshy-baked goods came drifting out of the kitchen. She wasn't sure how Megan even managed to keep on two career options at the same time: Susan herself seemed to be perpetually tired lately, and although the most things she learned were absolutely fascinating, she wasn't sure how much longer she could keep herself from cracking beneath the pressure of her long, tiring working days and her worries about her friends, Ernie in particular. While she blamed him for not taking care of herself, she hadn't exactly been minding her own health either for a while now, and it was beginning to show. Perhaps she would take a day off next week.
Putting her bag on a chair next to the door, Susan made her way into the living room, shouting "I'm home!" as she went. It still felt rather silly to use a phrase like that, domestical as it was, but in the past month Susan had really begun to think of their little flat as a proper home, and she had no doubt their new pets at least had something to do with that. Moving over to Sparky and Cupcakes' cage, she began to murmur a greeting to them, smiling as Sparky immediately made an impatient sound that indicated he wanted to be picked up.
"Hi, Susan!" Megan called from the kitchen, not that it was that far away. She had just put another thing of muffins in to bake and it was time for a short little break. Megan never knew how she managed it, but she was covered with batter. The good thing though, there hardly was ever a mess on the counters or tables while she baked just on herself. Turning around, she could see that Susan was by Sparky and Cupcake and she went over to them. "How was your day?" Megan asked as she took Cupcake in her hands. "That one has been rather impatient all day. Though I think both of them were surprised that I was here all day and that I didn't give him any attention," she said, indicating Sparky. "Want some muffins? I've got all sorts. You can take some with you to work. I made plenty to share."
Susan looked up with a smile when Megan came out of the kitchen, Sparky already happily bouncing around in her hands. "Hello. Did you have a nice day off?" Of course, the reason why Megan didn't have to go anywhere wasn't such a nice one, but that didn't mean she wasn't allowed to enjoy herself. The amount of bakery stalled out on the kitched table indicated Megan had been trying to keep herself busy though, and Susan wondered if Katie's death had affected her more than she showed. "It was all right," she said, absentmindedly rubbing her eyes as she moved over to the couch, Sparky still in her hands. "We got to see some real trauma cases though, and some were just horrible to watch. The things people get up to with magic, honestly." She didn't mention the part where she had had to hurry out of the room to keep herself from emptying her stomach all over the floor. "So you decided to make cupcakes for Cupcake?" she continued jokingly, pushing all thought of work out of her head for now. "Do you have any chocolate ones?"
"I did. I spent the whole day baking and enjoyed myself quite a bit." It kept her mind off of things too. Megan was not the type of person who wanted to be sad, ever. Katie's death did affect her more than she would ever let on and there was a lot of worry for her own teammates and her competitors. There hadn't been a Quidditch related death in years. Now everything was all messed up because of it and it was terrible that Katie had died. "Ooh. Sounds intense. Some people shouldn't be allowed wands, I think." She didn't know how Susan could do it. Quidditch injuries were enough for Megan. "Cupcake inspired them. I also made biscuits too. Yes. I've got lots of chocolate ones."
"Well, good," said Susan, getting up to put Sparky, who was beginning to get a bit too enthusiastic, back in the cage. "It would have been a shame to hear you didn't know how to have fun anymore!" Heading over to the kitchen, she began to pour herself a glass of pumpkin juice, pausing for a moment to see if Megan wanted some as well. Carefully putting aside a baking tin, she then hopped onto the counter, relishing the fact that she was able to do so in what was now their own home. "I think they would find crazy things to do even without a wand, though," said Susan, somewhat wistfully, eyeing a tray full of muffins close by. "Can I have one yet?" She was really in the mood for some chocolate, and those muffins just smelled heavenly.
Megan laughed. "I'm guessing that if Quidditch player or Herbologist doesn't work out as careers, I think I'll open up a shop. Sell these goodies to the witches and wizards of London." She put Cupcake back in the cage and followed Susan to the kitchen. She shook her head, she didn't want any pumpkin juice for the time being. "Of course you can have one! I think I shall have one too." Megan reached for a muffin for herself and took a bite. It was delicious. Just perfect. "I'm thinking of sending some to Ernie and maybe to Katie's family," she said with her mouth full. "Think its a good idea?"
Taking a big bite out of the muffin she had selected for herself, Susan closed her eyes as the taste of sweet, melty chocolate invaded her senses. "I think you should open a shop," she said after swallowing, wiping some crumbs from the corner of her mouth. "These are amazing! You'd have people knocking at your door, begging for more." Okay, so perhaps she was exaggerating just a bit, but they were pretty terrific muffins. Taking another bite, she nodded at Megan. "Sounds like a good idea to me. I'm sure it will mean much more to them than just condoling them, and we all know Ernie could do with a chocolate kick." She frowned. "I think perhaps Hermione didn't get the owl I sent her. She hasn't written back yet. I still think we need to drag Ernie away from his desk, though."
She smiled. "I'm glad you agree it would be a good business then. But I'm perfectly content with Quidditch and Herbology at the moment." Megan finished her muffin. Good to the last bite. "I'm sure it will. I have no idea what to say to anyone, but I do know that food is helpful." She didn't know that for sure, but she knew it was something people did after a death. Something about not wanting to fix anything while they were feeling down. Megan would probably act the same way she did know if death closely affected her. "That's too bad. Yes, we do need to drag him away. I hope that he is doing okay anyway even with all of that work."
Susan laughed. "Yes, I think that would be enough to handle at once for the moment." Finishing her muffin as well, she jumped down from the counter. "Hey, do you feel like ordering take-out and watching a movie?" She gave Megan a questioning look. Today had been tiring enough as it was, and she really didn't feel like getting rid of all the baking materials so she could whip up something to eat for the two of them. First things first, though. She eyed Megan, her mouth curling into an amused smile. "I think you even have batter in your hair." Turning serious again at the subject of Ernie, she quietly handed over some paper towels. "I don't know, Theodore and Draco seemed rather worried as well, and you know what boys are like. They don't notice anything until it stares them in the face. I don't know what to do, though."
"More than enough. I wish I could just choose already." Megan took a moment to think. "I like this idea. Yes, take-out and a movie." She was glad that Susan suggested that. More work had to be done before eating could even commence if they didn't get take-out. Besides, food was needed to get her some energy just to clean up. It could wait a bit. "Oh do I?" Megan ran her hands through her hair, and pulled the end of it over her shoulder to inspect the ends. Yes, she certainly did have batter in her hair. It was sure going to be fun washing that out. "I do. Great." Megan nodded her head. "Yep, that sounds like boys. This is really serious then. Maybe if our breaks line up at the same time tomorrow, we could go drag him away from work tomorrow? Although, that might not be very effective with us having to work and all that."
"I'm sure you'll figure it out eventually," said Susan, tilting her head to the side as the tried to see if there was any more batter damage she hadn't spotted. Part of her wished she had been able to stay at home today and get covered in batter. Sticky as it might be, it looked like Megan had had fun today. "Great!" she continued, rummaging around for some papers. Holding up two leaflets she presented their options. "So, pizza or curry?" She couldn't say she really had a preference herself, as long as their food was here soon. She could do with something nice and warm. Pondering Megan's suggestion for a moment, she nibbled on her bottom lip as she concentrated on her thoughts. "I think I could manage to get away for about an hour," she said after a moment. "But you're right, if we're unlucky it will take us half an hour just to get him to cooperate. "What time are you done tomorrow? Perhaps we could drag him off on the way home."
Megan shrugged her shoulders. She hoped so. "Pizza!" Megan said automatically, not bothering to look at the leaflets to even find something that sounded good from the curry place. "I've been wanting pizza since we had it at Hannah's last month." She nodded her head. "I think I should be done around 3. I'll be here in London since its Herbology day. I'm done before you, right? I can come and wait for you before we go drag him off."
"All right, pizza it is." Moving back over to the couch, Susan sat down with a contented sigh. This was more like it. "Sounds like a plan. If it's a quiet day perhaps I'll be able to leave around four. We'll have to see." She gave Megan a hopeful smile. She wasn't sure they would actually be able to help Ernie, but just knowing they were going to try made her feel better. "But enough of that. Let's order. You never know, perhaps we'll even meet Hannah's delivery boy again!"
