Teddy,

I know I've been busy and I haven't gotten to spend as much time with you this summer as I probably should have. And I know I can be completely daft and sort of an idiot when it comes to certain matters. But anyone who knew your dad knows he'd never purposely hurt anyone, especially not by choice. You know everyone else's fathers used to give me nightmares? But not yours. When I was little, I actually used to pretend we got married when I grew up. Not that you needed to know that--anyway.

I just wanted you to know that. You're wonderful, and an incredible friend, and you and your mother don't deserve this.
