closing ceremonies for hogwarts -- all students and staff invited!
Minerva McGonagall looked over the Great Hall, nodding in satisfaction. It had not been an easy year, but it had certainly been an improvement over those in which parents were killed, students passed, and battles waged on Hogwarts' very grounds. She had done her best to keep Dumbledore's spirit alive even if she took his teachings a bit further, aiming to truly, once and for all, make Hogwarts a united school. Oh, she still let her eyes linger a bit longer on Gryffindor's table, but when they swept to the other houses, she was able to see students who were every bit as brave as her lions.

She glanced toward her staff, signaling they were about to begin. She rose while tapping a glass for attention. "Good afternoon, all. I am pleased to bring this year to a close. It has been a difficult one, but I am proud of the strides we have all taken together. Why..." She didn't let her eyes search them out, but surely Remus and Severus would know who she meant. "Even professors have learned new tricks. For those returning, I cannot wait to work together to create other changes and to grow even more. For those leaving us..." She paused, clearing her throat. She hadn't cared about a group so much since James Potter's class went through. "I have seen great things from you already. I know you shall continue to recall the lessons you've been taught. Work hard, be honest, and never fail to help another in need." She smiled as much as Minerva could and then clapped her hands. "Now, I know you are anxious to hear the results..." She made a great show of pulling out parchment. "I am proud to announce Ravenclaw won the Quidditch cup." She held a hand up to quiet the crowd. "As you know, winning Quidditch doesn't necessarily mean a House wins the competition." She paused again. "But in this case...I am pleased to announce that Ravenclaw has indeed won this year!" She let the students cheer before tapping at her glass again. "Ravenclaw has consistently participated in the events your staff, prefects, and Heads have put on this year. They showed the most willingness and optimism and I am incredibly proud of that. Now...to illustrate that..." She raised her wand, allowing the colors to turn into vibrant blue and bronze.

Well, at least it wasn't Gryffindor. Snape smirked to himself. He had caught her reference to himself and Lupin, but, honestly, if she thought he'd be truly thrilled his house didn't win...though, he supposed, if any house had to get it, it might as well have been Ravenclaw. It wasn't like they hadn't worked for it. Or had any unfair advantages. Right, looking forward, not back...

He applauded, but his eyes searched out first Draco, then Teddy and then the rest of his snakes. Merlin, he was going to miss them. Sentimental old fool. His eyes wandered to Gryffindor then. Potter, Granger, Weasley, Longbottom...damn, he was going to miss them too. But he believed McGonagall's words. They could make a difference.

Ted was at the table as well, and clapping when Minerva announced the winner of the Cup. Ravenclaw certainly deserved it. He smiled, gazing over the students, and then leaned in slightly toward Severus. "I imagine it never gets easier, does it?" Asked quietly about the students.

Severus didn't bother turning to regard Ted. He didn't quite understand why he was asking such a thing of Severus anyway. Wasn't he the foul git all the students couldn't wait to get rid of? His opinion of them didn't matter.

"Some years are harder." His gaze automatically went from Draco to Harry. He had spent all that time protecting them and now...well. They were going off into the world to forget all about him.

Mandy waited patiently as Professor McGonagall spoke, of course anyone who was sitting near Mandy could see that she wasn't very good at waiting patiently, her fingers tapped furiously on the table as she waited for the results. It seemed that all the pressure that she's hard this year was fading a way, a part of her felt relieved. While she enjoyed being Captain, she was always worried if she was doing a good job. On the other hand, who knows what would be waiting for her outside of Hogwarts, in her mind she felt like she went from being on top to having to start off at the bottom again.

Then the words came out. Ravenclaw had won. Not only the Quidditch cup but the House cup as well. Mandy let out the loudest yell she could possibly muster. She jumped up instantly, throwing her hands in the air. Feeling so relieved and happy for her other housemates. Feeling that this was an excellent way to end a year. Her eyes were filling with tears quickly as she looked around to find someone to hug her.

Lisa couldn't help snickering, as quietly as she could manage, at Mandy, knowing she wasn't one to be patient. Lisa was fine with waiting. Besides, she doubted that they would win either the Quidditch cup nor the House cup. No, that usually went to Gryffindor or Slytherin.

But when she heard that Ravenclaw had won both, it was quite a shock for her. The expression on her face certainly proved that. Lisa yelled out in celebration and clapped as well. She leaned towards Mandy to speak to her. "I'm so happy that you won the Quidditch cup! Congrats!"

Mandy wrapped her arm around Lisa's shoulder, grinning at the girl she took a long look around the Great Hall. "Thanks Lisa!" Mandy replied, even though this would probably be the last time she'd see Lisa, well of course she would make sure to stay in touch, but they would no longer be sharing a dorm and seeing her every day. Now wasn't the time to be upset over that. Now was the time to celebrate.

"What do you think? Not a bad way to end a year, eh?"

"You're welcome, Mandy!" Lisa told her. She certainly was glad, and felt full of pride, that they had won both cups. Lisa knew that the Ravenclaw team must be even more excited than she was about winning that cup.

And it certainly was not a bad way to end the year, but like Mandy, Lisa couldn't help thinking it would be a long time before she saw one of her best friends again. "I say, an excellent end of the year. Also an excellent way to go out. We've proven that we are the best this year!"

Teddy never played Quidditch nor had he ever been docked points so he never truly felt he had a stake in the whole cup nonsense. He had been awarded points here and there for academic success, but, really, he hadn't much bothered himself with it. Still, it was nice to see Gryffindor not win for once. Besides, even if he hadn't been there then, Slytherin had won plenty. He glanced to Pansy and Draco and Tracey, wondering if they were disappointed. Really, he was more worried about stepping outside those doors and onto the train for the last time.

Still, he caught Mandy's whoop and smiled. She had been really nice, even sticking her neck out in that article. Yes, he was glad Ravenclaw won. Though...he searched out Ernie and Hannah. Maybe it wouldn't have been horrible if Hufflepuff won...

Pansy was less than amused as the colours around them changed. First of all, blue and bronze clashed horrible, and it was really about time someone did something about that. And secondly, well... She wasn't personally very emotionally invested in Quidditch (other than the fact that their team always did wear their robes well...and on brooms, no less), but Draco was. And he'd been Captain that year, after all. And everyone knew it was the Seeker who won the game in the end. Well bugger. He was bound to be a right joy to live with the next few--

And then it hit her. She wouldn't be living with these people the next few days. Or, in the case of most of them, ever again. She may end up marrying one of them, likely would as the wizarding world was a terrifyingly small place, or she might seek out a roommate at some point. But the people around her were most likely around her for the last time.

Certainly put things into perspective. And at least it wasn't Potter's lot again, being dealt points they didn't deserve simply to boost them to the top of the chain. Still... Did the Ravenclaws have to go and win both? It just didn't seem fair... Dammit, her thoughts were everywhere and she couldn't wrap her head around any of it. But a glance at Teddy, and the direction of his gaze, certainly brought her crashing back to Earth. How was Tracey ever going to get a chance if he couldn't stop and focus on his own bloody table? "So," she said, a little more loudly than she needed to, "I suppose that's it, then. Seven years and this is our reward?" Not that she minded Ravenclaw...exactly. They were just full of way too knowledgeable gits who couldn't dress.

Megan didn't want to go to the Great Hall on this last day. She'd have to admit that her education was over. Her home away from home for so many years would no longer be a home for her. Megan was going to miss this place. Although it was time to say goodbye, at least there were a couple of things to look forward to, like the cups and the food.

When she came to the Great Hall, Megan took a seat next to her fellow seventh years and waited patiently for the announcements. As Professor McGonagall made them, Megan hoped that they would get something, but alas the honors went to Ravenclaw. She wasn't going to complain, much, because it wasn't Gryffindor or Slytherin. All her six years previous, one or another had gone to Gryffindor or Slytherin and seeing that Ravenclaw won was a nice change from it all. It would have at least been nice if Hufflepuff had won the Quidditch cup though.

Ernie might not have played Quidditch, but that didn't mean he wouldn't have appreciated winning the actual cup. Though, as he watched how happy his Ravenclaw friends were, he couldn't begrudge them. The heasmistress was correct; they had really stepped up and helped both Ernie and Hermione out in terms of those projects. Still, he wrapped an arm across Megan's shoulders. "Still, good job, you."

"Thanks, Ernie," Megan told him. "Ravenclaw just did an even better job. It was well deserved for them." Ravenclaw had beat them in their Quidditch match, which was also well deserved. Megan was happy for them. She would have been happy for whomever won the cups. But thinking about Quidditch was a little saddening. There would be no more chances to win the cup for her, and the rest of them leaving. "A bit sad though, it being the end?"

Ernie nodded his agreement, squeezing Megan's shoulders just a bit tighter. "Hey, where's that Hufflepuff optimism?" He teased. "Just a new beginning, yeah?" He glanced toward the Gryffindor table, trying to spot Hermione.

"It's still there!" Megan rolled her eyes, knowing very well that he was teasing. She put her arm around him and gave him a squeeze. "I only said a bit." She nodded her head. "Very much so. Now that's both scary and exciting." It certainly would be that.

Neville could hardly be disappointed with the results. Gryffindor had possession of both Cups plenty of times since his entrance into Hogwarts. He'd never forget being eleven years old and helping his House win the House Cup, even if the Quidditch Cup had still rested with Slytherin that year. No, he didn't begrudge Ravenclaw, even if Ron and Ginny both looked devastated at the loss. They'd had a good season, though, and his girlfriend had played so well he had little doubt she'd be earning a spot as captain the next year. Besides, he was excited for Luna, even if her usual spacey expression gave away no hints as to how she was handling the win.

"It'll be us again next year," he reassured his classmates, giving Ginny's hand a squeeze under the table. "We'll all get together and celebrate at the Three Broomsticks or something. Once a Gryffindor, always a Gryffindor, right?" Which sounded so good in his head, but in practise? Would they all still feel that way in three or four years, after having gone their separate ways and found different friends and hobbies and careers? They couldn't possibly have gone through everything the classes of 1997, 1998, and 1999 had and not still be friends after it, right? He attempted to catch Harry's eye, thought better of it, and simply looked again in Luna's direction, who seemed to finally catch on that her housemates were genuinely excited about the win.

Ginny looked over at Neville, forcing a small smile. "Sure!" She said brightly. It wasn't that she wasn't happy for Ravenclaw and all her friends in that house for the win. She was. She was mostly just disappointed that Gryffindor hadn't done a bit better in Quidditch. She let out a small sigh and glanced down. "Ugh, Michael is going to be impossible to work with this summer." She realized in a moment of near horror. "Maybe Fred will stick him in Hogsmeade and I won't have to deal with him going on about it." She gave a small laugh, shaking her head.

"So, how's it feel to be all finished?" She asked in a smooth change of subject.

Neville's stomach did a little flip-flop at the reminder that Ginny would be working with her ex-boyfriend. Ex, he had to remind himself. One day, he'd work on the whole not being jealous thing. But it was particularly hard when you were dating one of the 'popular' girls. Especially when the only girls who'd ever looked twice at you only did so because an evil wizard had attempted to kill you and failed. Oh, and because you killed said evil wizard's pets. "You'll show him when you're Captain next year and he's still working the shop," he told her confidently. Or, at least, as confidently as Neville could manage when it meant his girlfriend would be spending a majority of her summer with a world class flirt.

Still... All finished? Horrifying, actually. But Neville put on a smile, shaky though it was. "Good. I think. Well, no, maybe not good. Scary. But... Well, we're all in this together, and then there's you and Colin and the gang watching our backs and all..." He shrugged a little bashfully. "It'll work. It's got to, I mean, we can't go back and do it again after all."

Ginny gave a roll of her eyes. "If I get captain, that is." She reminded him. "Might go to Demelza or Jack or someone." She said it mostly for her own bennefit. To remind herself not to get her hopes up too high about it. No matter how much she wanted it and how thrilled she would be to have it. She had to remember that there were other people on the team and that just because she wanted it, didn't mean that she was going to get it. "Still, would be brilliant though, wouldn't it?" She asked, unable to hide her excitment at the thought.

"You," She started, giving his hand a squeeze and resting her head against his shoulder, "Are going to be fantastic." She assured him. "You are the best in the greenhouse and any place would be lucky to have you around." She gave him an encouraging peck on the cheek.

"You will," Neville reassured, with all the confidence in her that he didn't have in himself. "Just like someday you'll be starting chaser for the Harpies. Trust me, I know things!" Not that he didn't like Demelza, and Jack, too. And most of the underclassmen on the team, for that matter. But Ginny deserved it! Everyone knew it, she'd been a saviour for the team, when Harry had been banned, and when he'd had detention. And those were just as Seeker, that didn't even include all the points she'd scored as Chaser.

At the light touch of her lips, Neville blushed thoroughly. They'd never up and announced their relationship to everyone around them, but with gestures like that, they couldn't really think otherwise, could they? His smile was shy and still quite pleased as he almost absently turned his face to touch his forehead briefly to hers. "You're a bit biased, you know. Don't know if that's a fair assessment. Besides," he added, a grin on his face, "with that attitude backing me up, I really can't lose, can I?"

Ginny smiled at his confidence in her. "You just fancy yourself snogging a professional Quidditch player is all." She teased with a laugh. "I'm onto you, Longbottom." The thought that other people were likely watching the pair of them hardly crossed the redhead's mind. As far as she was concerned, they could all think anything they wanted. She hadn't gone on blabbing about it to anyone aside from Hermione and Tonks, but those two hardly qualified as everyone. They were her closest mates. Of course she'd gushed to them. Everyone else, she left it up to them to interpret things for themselves.

Though, carrying on the way they were right then was sure to solidify suspicions among their classmates.

"Hmm, you are one to talk about being biased." She pointed out with a raised eyebrow. "You can't lose either way. I'm just here to make you see that."

Sybille set at her spot at the table, her eyes rolled at the sight of the blue and bronze house colours. A sighed passed through her mouth, clearly not being as happy as she'd like to be at the moment; another year until she's chained up for good. It's not like she had anybody to really speak to at her table with everyone being so chummy, but it didn't bother her.

Her eyes looked down, observing the table and her hand ran along the dark wood.
