WHO: Nina Warrington, Chaz Warrington.
WHERE: Diagon Alley
WHEN: August 2032
WHAT: Nina is shopping for school before her sixth year, runs into an estranged brother.
WARNINGS: None!
Nina was not used to shopping on her own. Even during Hogsmeade trips, Nina was always with friends or her twin sister, Caroline. Previous Diagon Alley trips had been with their mother, even if the twins had wandered astray a few times the past couple years (as teenaged girls were wont to do). But this year, they'd convinced their parents that they were old enough to shop alone. Well, alone together, which was apparently something Caroline had failed to remember as she'd left Nina to her own devices in favor of shopping with friends she'd run into (and Caroline's friends were not often Nina's friends). She wasn't hurt by being left behind-- it was perfectly reasonable for Caroline to shop with her friends instead. Nina would have hated to just be dragged along as "the sister". Never mind that if Nina had run into friends of her own, she'd have wanted Caroline to come along. But that was what made the two twins different. But again, Nina didn't mind it. She was, however, a bit frazzled left on her own. It was an odd sensation to be left to do one's shopping alone, with no one's input or reminders. It was one that Nina found she liked, once she'd gotten the hang of it. She had a set amount of money (the twins had gotten the money from their father, and split it almost evenly-- Caroline may have gotten a few more coins, which was fine) and her list of school supplies. There was something terribly freeing about no one looking over her shoulder, giving her unasked for opinions-- not that she didn't appreciate her sister or her mother's advice, of course. Going directly down the list, she was nearly done. Robes-- check! She was pretty sure last years robes would hold up fine, so she'd only gotten one extra plus a new winter cloak. Books-- check! Even if she thought the bookstore prices were... oddly high, she was sure it was for a good reason. These books were important, after all, and no one would try to get unnecessary money from kids. All that was left was some odds and ends she needed and wanted, though she wanted to be sure to not spend all the money allotted to her. Partly to show that she was responsible with money, and partly because there was a 50% chance Caroline would appear to see if she had any money left to spare. But she was certain she could spare enough for an ice cream on a summer's day-- or a frozen yogurt, which had recently made it's way from the muggle world into the mouths of teens. Two decades late, but Nina was not aware of that. Vanilla and strawberry swirled, sprinkled with rainbow candies. Simple, but she liked simple. Holding her packages with one arm and her treat in the other, Nina was not entirely paying attention has she headed back into the fray of Diagon Alley. Would you like to be covered in froyo or smacked with school supplies, mysterious person she runs into haphazardly? |
