Kaitlyn was anxious. Her mother was upset--well, Kaitlyn was pretty sure she was upset. It was hard to determine these things because even when upset, Hannah would smile and insist that things were 'fine'. But her lips were pursed and she was being uncharacteristically short with her responses and her voice was getting higher in pitch. Kaitlyn had either missed something, or Hannah truly was fine and Kaitlyn needed to work harder on her people reading skills. Perhaps she needed to work on them regardless.
It was moving day. The day had been a long time coming. She was 25 and had a steady job at the Ministry. She had saved up enough for a small flat in Muggle London and had done research in order to find a 'good neighborhood'. She was a young woman--an adult--and she was ready to leave her parents' home and start her own life. Perhaps not the best way to present it to Hannah and Neville, as they had reacted to this declaration with a fair amount of resistance.
Her father's main concerns were safety-related. A young woman living alone seemed dangerous to him and there were parts of London, even in the Muggle areas, that weren't the safest. Hence the research into a 'good neighborhood'.
Her mother's concerns were harder to alleviate, however, as they were harder to pin down. Rent prices were apparently very high, and Kaitlyn was not well-versed in the responsibility that living alone entailed. There was also a discussion--though brief--about who would help at the Leaky. As if Kaitlyn had ever been truly helpful at the Leaky aside from reorganizing behind the bar. It had taken quite a bit of time to get Hannah's approval in all of this.
And now the day was here and though it had taken months to arrive, and they'd talked of little else, it seemed like Kaitlyn would be on her own for the event. Neville was, of course, in Scotland at school. Frank was still in the hospital, stable, but recovering from an attack that he'd been apart of at work. He would be fine, just a few more days at St. Mungo's. Hannah had given a short response that the pub was sure to be busy on a Saturday and that she couldn't pull herself away just then. And Daniel and Kit were always so busy, she hated to bother them. Besides, part of moving out was also asserting her independence, wasn't it? Fending for herself. Doing things on her own. All of that.
So she sat, surrounded by boxes full of her belongings, completely overwhelmed and having no idea where to get started.
