Malachi nodded. He could see her surprise. It was just one thing she hadn't known about him. She hadn't been too impressed the first time either. "Used to. But I stopped when you asked. It was time to stop anyway. My mum had been harping on me to stop for ages before you came along. Why make the important women in my life upset me for such a simple thing as a cigarette? Anyway, there were other things to smoke when I wasn't a father."
He shook his head. "It's easy. Unless I'm neglecting either one of you - which I don't think I am - I think I about have it down. I wouldn't change it for anything anyway." He paused. "Don't worry. I don't terrorize you with my music much and you never made me read and romance novels so it all works out in the end."
