Malachi couldn't help but grin at her reaction. She was as casual as hell, but it actually seemed strange. Already he thought she was one of those people that wore her emotions on her sleeve, unafraid to show how she felt or to grab what she wanted at nearly all costs. Maybe he was wrong, but with that first impression it was amusing to see her act cavalier about something that most people wouldn't. All Malachi wanted was a good time, not love. He knew he wasn't like most people in that regard. Maybe it had something to do with his last name.
He looked up at her, who was still looking down as she explained the Death card to him, when the card was revealed. Startled, he almost wanted to end the reading there. Until she continued to explain it wasn't about his death but about something ending and in turn something else beginning. He could deal with that. Things were ending and beginning all the time. But he had no idea what this card was especially. Going home to France and his mother? Changing his name back even? He had no idea. He hadn't been planning to end anything important any time soon. At least it was his distance future that he didn't have to worry about now.
Malachi looked up at her again after she was done, meeting her eyes. His first intention was to be charming and flirting, but thought better of it. Out of respect for her he needed to take his seriously even if he didn't know why. "Well, I'm glad I'm not dying. I have a lot to do in my life left. But something ending might be good... Or might not and the thing beginning might be. Either way, something is good from it," he said, leaning a bit farther back away from the card. In turn, he had leaned away from her, but it wasn't his intention, not really.
