Malachi was relieved when Lavender didn't ask for anymore. It was hard enough as it was yet alone to explain and talk about to someone he'd just met. She'd even reacted badly to his name before which was an indicator she was probably on his mother's side in it too. Most people were, honestly, who knew what happened. He kept watching the card for a second before he tried to look at her. The quick glance made him notice there was nothing bad in her eyes or expression, like she disapproved of it openly. Instead, she was smiling, probably because he hadn't reacted well to the first card. Or maybe because she just smiled a lot.
Looking at the card flipped over, he let a small smile form on his face. His mother wasn't far from his thoughts, but he couldn't and wouldn't dwell on it during the whole reading. It would be a waste of time he could be trying to charm Lavender. He could almost hear the smile in her voice now, making him look up at her and meet her eyes as he listened to what she had to say about the card's meaning.
He actually smiled brightly at Lavender. So his past may be a bit of a downer, but his present isn't. Leaning forward toward Lavender slightly without thinking, he said, "I agree with this card. My present is damned good at the moment."
