Malachi nodded at the simple five card spread. Other spreads can be deeper or meant to ask very specific questions - some even about specific topics if he remembered right. This spread was one that wasn't as focused. Instead the cards each other was about something more vague - past, future, present and the like. He actually wasn't sure what the other two cards would represent.
He listened as Lavender turned over the card and explained both what card looked like and more so what it meant. He actually wondered how many people didn't try to ignore their problems, particularly difficult ones. Despite her knowing just enough about his past - his family - to pin a name on the woman in the card, he wasn't sure what to make of it. His mother hadn't blinded herself. She made the decision to get the hell out of the country rather have his father's choices, beliefs, and life interfere any longer with hers and interfere at all with her son's. Maybe it was wrong to assume she hadn't lived blindly from what was going on until it was the last straw and she'd shed her blindfold so to speak. She had never complained, never said she regretted anything. In fact, she always claimed she wouldn't change anything in her and least of all anything that would change him being born.
"It's a card of her choice. Her choice to stay as long as she did and then to leave when she did. Her act of leaving was probably when she took the 'blindfold' off?" Malachi said the words in a question; part of him really didn't understand this card. If he couldn't understand the past that he knew, lived through even, then how was he supposed to understand the card about his future that hasn't happened yet? Maybe that's why he didn't like Divination, he didn't understand what it was trying to tell him.
