Sirius was sitting at the lunch table with his friends... It was awkward for him, to see Remus and Peter in the same place like this but he wasn't planning on speaking about it. Not for a while anyway. Everything was still comfortable and he was laughing at the way James had french fries hanging from his nose before he heard a rustle of wings above his head. Before he had time to glance up a letter was dropped in front of him, on his plate, and he stared down at it in a confusion before looking up and watching the unfamiliar owl fly off. He looked back down at the letter, glancing at the others... a silence had fallen over him and he wasn't sure if they noticed or not but he lifted the letter and he slowly pulled at the silver string around it, letting the ebony black parchment slowly unfold in his hand.
Words appeared on the blank page before his eyes in wisps of silver ink, moving across the page as if some non-existent quill was working in front of him, and he slowly began to read.
Mister Sirius Black,
If you are receiving this letter it is to inform you that your uncle, Alphard Black, has passed at 10:36 on September 10th, 1976. We are deeply sorry for your loss and after careful review of your late uncles Will it has been put in ink that you are to retrieve his full fortune of 3.9 million Galleons, 330,00 Sickels and 22,000 Knuts. Too collect what your relative has left for you, you must report to the-
The letter slowly fell from his hands and his lips were parted in what could only be explained as a completely shocked expression... he had to have read that incorrectly. He knew how much money his uncle had but he could not have possibly left it all to Sirius.... that... he would have gotten disowned from the family for doing that! Then again, disowning does not mean much when one is six feet under... his hands were shaking. He had hardly knew his uncle... why would he have given all that money to him? What should he do with it? Where will he put it? Does he buy a house? He needed to get the rest of his things from Grimmauld... things began racing through his head and he could only sit there in complete shock before he suddenly stood and looked at his friends. He was shaking... he didn't know how to react. He wanted to laugh and he wanted to cry, he wanted to scream loudly just to get the energy out from his veins, but he just stood.... and he looked at Peter, James and Remus before saying, "I.... I need to walk..."
He climbed off of the bench, almost tripping as he did and he left the letter there for his friends to read... his cool demeanor was gone now and he was walking at an impossibly brisk pace towards the great hall, and down random corridors... this was impossible. He should have brought the letter to re-read it, to make sure he wasn't completely INSANE, but he knew what he saw... his stranger of an uncle had passed... and he was finally able to escape how he always wanted to...
