Who: Severus Snape & Lily Potter
Where: Apothecary, Diagon Alley
When: A brisk Sunday afternoon.
What: TBD.
Rating: Likely low.
Dragon scales were becoming harder and hard to source, as it would happen, but this would be the first year in which Severus Snape had to put forth a greater effort in securing some, an inevitability he knew would come but now that it had, found the whole situation irritating nonetheless. The past few year's supply of new dragons had been lower than predicted, and dragon scales could only be harvested from young dragons, mostly because a) young dragons shed their scales quite frequently before they would finally harden to a tough armor-like shell once they reached their full maturity and b) young dragons were less likely to turn one into a charred mass of carbon upon initial approach. So it happened, Severus had meticulously researched, made inquiries and negotiated deals to be the first in line once a new batch had come in, and was gratified, at least, to know his work had paid off when Slug & Jiggers Apothecary finally owled him with the long anticipated announcement. He promptly Apparated to the Alley, automatically sneered at the abundance of weekend shoppers crowding the streets and cut a swath right through them with his scowling, swooping presence alone (a sight which pleased him immensely). The bell jingled loudly in the quiet when he opened the door and stepped in, the medicinal and vaguely sulfuric scents immediately stinging the insides of his nose, though he had long since become quite accustom to them that they barely even registered. Slug & Jiggers was, he would grudgingly admit, one of the better apothecaries in England, nearly organised and supplied in such a manner of which he could only approve. For a commercial entity, that was. The apothecary in Hogsmeade, while certainly more convenient to his primary location, couldn't hope to compare, and outside of the weeks before school started up again, the former had an infinitely more pleasant atmosphere. "Ah, Mister Snape," Mister Jiggers called out to him from the back room, a near alarmingly slender man with an equally long, equine face and a smile that was more off-putting than reassuring. "It is good you are so prompt to arrive. I've already have a half dozen other inquiries ready to snap our dragon scales right up, but of course we value you as one of our most preferred customers. If you would be so kind to wait a few moments while I go into the back room and gather your order?" "See that you do, Mister Jiggers. I'll wait. And I hope this time we can avoid an accidental and unexpected price markup." A warning look was levelled at the man. Jiggers swallowed nervously before his smile returned. "Ah yes, a most unfortunate situation that was. Rest assured, it won't happen again," he said before disappearing into the back. Severus nearly rolled his eyes, rapping his knuckles twice upon the store counter and settling in for what he hoped would be a brief wait. |
