What: Rescuing the Muggleborns Part 2
8 NOV 1997 | Headmaster Snape's Office It had been ten days since they’d escaped capture from the inquisitorial squad and the ministry. Preston Plank, Leia Loxias, and the Creevey brothers had been slowly walking through the Forbidden Forrest unsure of where they were or where they were going. Thankfully Leia was relatively resourceful when it came to charming their flimsy clothes with warming charms. Dennis knew a number of useful survival spells that found them food. Colin was good at scouting their next path of movement for shelter. And Preston, well… Preston was still nursing his twisted ankle as it had now become swollen twice it’s normal size. He was aware that it was slowing them down. They’d lucked out a few days prior and found a cave. Leia suspected it was used as a unicorn den of some kind but had been long deserted. It was the first time since they’d been on the run that they weren’t charming tree branches for cover. “I know we haven’t really talked about it much,” Preston offered as Leia added some wood to the small fire between them. "But… maybe you lot go on without me." "What? No," Leia was adamant in her tone and she shot the brothers a glance. "Dennis shrugged, "We could always come back." "No," Leia demanded. "We do this together." "She's right," Colin nodded. "We have a better chance surviving as a group. Its been 10 days- we're doing alright." "We have no idea where we're going," Preston pointed out. "We could be walking in circles for all we know." "He's right," Dennis nodded. "We could split up - get a lay of the land figure out where we are Come back here and--" "What was that?" Leia asked quickly standing Midgen's stollen wand at the ready. Colin joined her with Zabini's wand - stepping between the entrance of the cave and the fifth years. "Shh!" The cave became quiet save for the echos of the fire embers cracking. The chilly breeze beyond gusting in as footsteps crushed down on foliage beyond. "Creevey?" Came a familiar voice a few yards off beyond the brush. "Its Seamus!" Dennis immediately stepped forward and Colin reached out to stop him. "Wait till we see him," Colin whispered. "It could be a trick." Preston used his hands to toss dirt on the fire and the group waited. Footsteps neared closer and the muggleborns tensed. A collective sigh of relief occurred, however, when Neville Longbottom emerged followed by Luna, Seamus, Ginny, and Hagrid. "See, told ya there was a cave in this area," Hagrid smiled as he plopped down a satchel and began handing the pajama-clad students various blankets and shoes from the lost and found. "Are you lot alright?" Neville asked, clapping a hand on Colin's shoulder while Seamus greeted Dennis with a side hug. "Just bloody glad to see ya, mate!" Colin beamed. "How'd you find us?" Leia asked who had clung to Ginny for a familiar and comforting embrace. "Hagrid's been tracking you all week," Ginny informed. "Figured out you were walking in circles." "See," Preston leaned over, not bothering to stand to greet them. "I told yo--" he was suddenly very distracted by Luna who knelt down next to the Hufflepuff and unexpectedly hugged him while also covering him with a blanket. Hagrid then started handing out sandwiches and bottles of water. The muggleborns immediately began feasting and thanking. Having survived on berries and a few roots and non-hallucinogenic mushrooms their appetites were wanting. "Once you get fed and watered we'll take you to the room of requirement." "What? I'm not going back to Hogwarts," Dennis protested his mouth full of food. "They were going to kill us," Preston exaggerated. "The Room of Requirement is the safest place for you right now," Seamus countered. "Justin and a few others are there now." "Others made it?" Colin perked up already halfway through his food. "Yeah," Ginny nodded. "We found a safe way in from Hogsmeade. It'll be a trek, but its the best option to get you in without anyone seeing." "And what happens when we get there? I have to get home, check on my parents." Leia had barely eaten her ears perked at the plan. "There's no way that can happen right now," Neville said gently. "Snatchers are still patrolling Hogsmeade." "I dont care," the girl countered. "I have to make sure they're alright." "How are you going to get there?" Seamus asked. "There's literally no way to-" "I can have someone check on 'em," Hagrid offered. "I've got friends who'll track them down, make sure they're safe. Most important thing right now is to get you lot out of the elements." "He's right," Neville offered. "We'll figure out a way to get in contact with your family once we get everyone safe." Leia glanced between the boys before resigning herself with a nod. "Come on then. Detentions only supposed to last an hour and we're probably going to be pushing two by the time we get to town," Ginny informed. Seamus shouldered the now empty bag and Hagrid moved to lift Preston up like a baby. The group began their journey to Hogsmeade, then to the Hogshead and down a secret passage that led right into the warm security that was the Room of Requirement. |
