Who: Lisa Turpin & Vincent Crabbe
When: October 20
What: Just a bit of training
Where: IS Headquarters
Warnings: None
The furniture was pushed back to show just how large a space their lounge was, Lisa was somewhat surprised. She stared down the dummies at the ready each waiting for their pair. Pairs, right the Carrows had instructed them to find a partner for this first training session.
“Hey, be my partner,” she said quickly to Vincent before he had the chance to ask anyone else or end up with Gregory. He would be the type to care about doing good in this group and that is what she needed right now. Lisa smiled at him and for a moment thought about her recent conversation with Daphne.
Vincent was in the middle of taping the handle of his wand for better grip, he hadn’t been expecting the Ravenclaw to pinpoint him for a partner. His posture stiffened and he looked around desperately for help from one of his friends. “Erm…. alright,” he mumbled before quickly walking to the mat farthest from his uncle. His attention was transfixed on his wand - not prepared for small talk.
Lisa followed along behind him to the mat he chose. She stood near him unsure what to say to Vincent, what does one talk about to Vincent Crabbe?
The Fire Bing Curse, not one she had practised before and she was a bit hesitant to try it out. “Did you want to go first,” she asked hoping he would.
"Er… nah, you….erm… you go," he awkwardly motioned and scratched the back of his head.
Damnit, she thought to herself. “Alright,” she said trying not to sound at all nervous or unsure. She stared their dummy down before finally making the first attempt.
Lisa sent the cruse toward the finding that it dodge her efforts for one and sent it’s own curse back to her. Lisa had not been entirely expecting that and hastily threw up a shielding charm, almost not quick enough. “Shit,” she said a little surprised.
Vincent couldn’t help but smirk at the almost missed block. “Nice try,” he offered as though her attempt were adorable - and it was. To be fair, having grown up with Amycus as an uncle, any block that didn’t end with you firing back was considered a hit anyway.
“You going to take a stab at it then?” Lisa asked.
The Slytherin stepped up to the training mat and took a dueling stance with surprisingly delicate lines. A sharp Fire Bind spell jaggedly danced down the mat to be blocked and an electrical response was sent back. Unlike his partner and a few of the others around them, Vincent sidestepped and blocked only to immediately send another fire bind back faster. The dummy parried, blocked and returned an equally quick response. Vincent managed a manuever that blocked and sent back two versions of the fire bind curse in various speeds. The dummy blocked the first but missed the second and was consumed by firey whipping binds.
A large pleased smile came over the boy and he looked back at his partner and said rather happily, “This one’s weaker on its right side.”
Lisa watched Vincent work and honestly she was surprised and even a bit impressed. She watched him return the spell after successfully blocked the dummies return smoothly unlike she had.
Lisa was the one to just stare at him without words. She wasn’t sure what she had expected, but it was not that. Vincent visibly looked around to see if she was staring at anyone else. He moved off the mat and scratched the back of his head. She finally snapped out of it, “Oh right, I’ll try that side then. Any other tips?”
Vincent shrugged, “Move faster?” His tone wasn’t bashful, but it wasn’t aggressive either. He usually wasn’t asked for tips, so he wasn’t quite sure what she needed.
“Enlightening,” Lisa said in response before moving into position again. Lisa took a deep breath before sending the curse towards the dummy. It dodged like it had before but this time Lisa was ready. She blocked the return before sending it back quickly, but once more the dummy blocked the spell and sent and even quicker return. This time Lisa took the tip and returned the curse towards the right side and actually had success in hitting the dummy.
Lisa looked over at Vincent excited and kind of pleased with herself. “I did it.”
Her smile caused Vincent to return an equally excited one, “You did great!” He didn’t even bother hiding his excitement and a hand came up to offer her a high five.
“Thanks!” Lisa replied as she gave him a high five. It was as she dropped her hand she acknowledged how foreign it felt to be friendly with Vincent but not unwelcome. “Thanks for the tip.”
Catching himself his hand went to rub his palm absently on the side of his robes and he cleared his throat, “Yeah. No problem.” He grinned at her against his will as he stepped onto his mat for another turn.
