He glanced over, caught her eye as she was thanking him, and turned his eyes away. There was nothing to thank her for, because this was business, wasn't it? He knew that falling too deeply for the lure of compassion could draw him back from the Dragon. It was best to avoid it altogether.
"Get as far away from this town as you can," he said, grimly. "I don't think they have the town under heavy surveillance, but staying is a risk you can't take. Steal a car if you have to, but get clear of here, as far as you can go."
He continued walking with her, falling silent as another guard passed on the other side of the hallway.
"Most patients here, they're here because they wanna be for one reason or another. If your guy wants you locked up, he's crazy. Once you get clear, you should get a tip in on him. If you don't know who he works for, get it to the government. They won't want any heat on this place. They can only turn a blind eye until they can't justify it anymore, and then they have to move fast. They'll crack down on that asshole so hard his head will spin. Come on."
They rounded a corner. The security station, only a small one for the employee exit, was dead ahead.
