Re: The Woods: Full Moon > Pack Trailers in the Woods
He had spent his entire adult life so far on his own, but he still had the ability within himself to read the attitude of an Alpha when their full attention was on him. And he knew that in this instance, it wasn't good. Even though he was left still reeling at the thought that somehow he had a pup out there somewhere, and somewhere in this town, his present thoughts were all taken up by steely-dark eyes and a snarl. He knew that teeth-bared grimace for what it was, and identified it as such in his mind.
Had he been on four feet, his ears would have been pinned firmly back and tail very low between his legs.
The shift of the Alpha's attention was like the rush of oxygen returning to a suffocating room. He could breathe again, could marshal his thoughts back into something approaching sane. Though hardly peaceful or calm. A pup. A school teacher. Another wolf - an Alpha this time - with obvious dislike for him. A pack where he knew no one.
He could find the teacher. He hadn't known that's what she was, but he could find her. He still remembered how she smelled, even under the too-sharp scent of too much alcohol on both their breaths. He could slip away from the too-sharp gaze of the Alpha and find her and make it right. Somehow. And with the attention shifted away from him, he could maybe slip away and go do that. Or at least start thinking about it.
The girl that had stood on the leaves was loud, a full personality that held attention, complete with a smile and a joke. She could provide him with what he needed to slip away again. With attention on her, he took a step backwards, silent as bare foot touched ground. And then again.
