Janis stayed where she was. She felt bad, but she wasn't sure why, or about what. Steve was leaving, and she had plenty of time to do something between the getting up and the mug-washing, but she couldn't think of what. She didn't want to know as urgently about what had happened with the Authorities (capital A) as Atticus did, because the details freaked her out. She could go and burn some of them up, or seduce one or two into deals, but that was different than one of them getting locked up.
She stood up too, and snarled back. "I didn't make any assumptions, I made an offer! Since you can't even be in the same room with me, obviously. You want to change and tear me up, GO FOR IT. I can't control how I want to be, and I'm not going to let you or your fucking dog change it." She flung an arm out at the door Steve had gone from, and her voice went up an octave. "Are you going to watch him, or am I? What if they come back?!"
