The people who worked it were so easy to manipulate, they all wanted power and invulnerability and the stupid shit mortals wanted, they sold almost anything for it. Janis glared at Atticus. She'd shrunk at first, only a split-second of shoulders lowering and then condensing, but she rebounded fast and the green eyes flashed. Atticus would see Janus sitting there, doing the same thing, eyes hard. "Yes. You want me to go, I'll go. But if I'm here it's like this. I tried to fix it for you, but it didn't work, so this is what you get." And then she drew in a sharp breath that broke a little in the middle.
