Re: log: the woods - wren/adrian
(ooc: no prob of course! feel better!)
Everything about Wren reminded Adrian of a small, defenseless little kid with nobody in the world. It made him feel a little desperate, like he needed to do everything and anything to keep him from bolting into the woods like a startled fawn. He hid it pretty well, cautious as he could be, but he still felt that suppressed worry. He was already trying to figure out what he'd do if he went back into the woods again, who he might call. "Nah," he said, with a smile. "I'm just a neighbor."
"I do," he said, and he gestured behind them. "Just through the woods, really. I'm surprised we never ran into each other before. I grew up around here, but I haven't been back in a long time. Are you from around here?"
Whoops. Okay, so rooms were bad. That anxious worry flared up a little, but thankfully it didn't show. "Hey, no," he said. He came no closer, just opened a palm at his side. Something about that panic over a closed room rang a reciprocal note in him, strumming something quiet and confused, something very old indeed. "I didn't mean it like that. A house. Just a nice normal house where you can come and go any time you want." He paused. He had an impulse to ask a question, and he knew it might be strange. But he was getting an unsettled feeling, and it seemed worth asking. "Have you ever...lived in a house before?"
