Re: [Jester's Court: Cat & Jack]
Cat had never had sense. No, really, even before all the chaos that defined her life? Cat had never had sense. It wasn't something he could boast of, and he certainly didn't own to it. Now less than before, he was completely without sense.
But he recognized Jack. Even amid the bell-bottoms and heady from the thick scent of patchouli, Cat recognized him. Jack was one of the constants in Cat's world the past few years, and while they hadn't exactly always seen eye-to-eye? Cat did consider him a very good friend. It helped that Jack never seemed to stay angry after decidedly bad behavior cast in his direction, and Cat knew he'd done a lot of shit to Jack during their acquaintance. Oh, you know, there was that thing with the newspaper, too. Fucking up a man's livelihood was a low blow, but Cat had been having a hard time that day, and Jack had just gotten caught in the crossfire of warring hormones and the loss of identity. Anyway, Cat was pretty sure that newspaper thing wouldn't happen today... you know, if the same thing happened now. But Cat was also becoming supremely fucking aware that he thought about things differently sometimes now. He was herself enough to realize there was dissonance, which was even more fucked up... but, anyway.
The amusement park was hopping, and Cat was long and tall, retro and hipster, whip-thin and with a mop of dark curls that tousled irreverently in the night breeze. He shoved his hands into the pocket of belted and loose jeans, and he lifted both shoulders in curl-slouch shrug that could represent disenchanted youth the world over. "I thought you'd given up the newspaper thing. Curiosity isn't the purview of small town business owners. So, what is it? Bowling? Skating? Dancing?" he asked of Jack's potential business venture.
"I love being surprising," Cat said honestly, but instead of sounding sultry and seductive? He sounded wry, and it was an obvious brand of sarcasm that suited angular features well.
He scuffed his feet, and he walked toward the funhouse. "I'm killing time. I have to head to Jersey, and the jet's getting readied. Helena got into some trouble. She's fine, but there's other family bullshit, and Eddie bailed." He didn't go into the whole 'in treatment' thing. That was private, and it wasn't as if Cat had any idea what Eddie was even in treatment for. But Cat was obviously bummed by Eddie's absence, and he was too emotionally young to hide it well beneath the lights of the ferris wheel. "So, what's the deal with this place. I just followed the traffic. You're the one with the research bug."
