[Jester's Court: Cat & Jack]
Cat, on the other hand, was a contradiction... as per usual. She'd been born in '74, even if that didn't feel like the case. He felt young, out of time, and like the bell bottoms were ridiculous. But the song was familiar in a bone-deep way, and he hummed it as he walked a few steps further into this anachronistic contradiction. And let's thank Eddie's influence, but Cat barely batted an eyelash at this shit that could absolutely not possibly be happening or make sense. If he'd already hit the coke, then he would've called this a bad batch, but, no, just some good hash oil, and even that wasn't enough to make him feel anything but a modicum of much needed chill.
Because, yes, Eddie was gone. Eddie was gone, and he was meeting a jet on a tarmac in a handful of hours, and God only knew what a trip down memory lane would do to him. He thought about Newt's potion, because he'd be able to wield a lot more power if he showed up in Jersey as herself. Not the teensy tiny version, but the woman who owned countless business in New Jersey and New York, and he'd ensured he gave Newt hair from an old brush and a new. So, considerations, and he didn't have time for this little detour. But, luckily, time was a fickle thing around here, and he assumed it wasn't moving outside. Even if it was? He had a few hours, and so he walked.
He tossed the beer into a garbage can, and he ground the cigarette under one of his designer kicks, and there had to be a way out. There was always a way out.
He remembered hearing something about the funhouse, and he walked toward the midway and its neon bulbs and screaming thrill-seekers.
There, and he wasn't even surprised, was Jack. Jack was... everywhere. He was starting to think they were actors in some universal farce, but that was too whimsical, and Cat had lost any potential for whimsy when she began hiding stolen things in a decrepit teddy bear. She, because that was a girl in another world, and this was a tall young man, one with long steps and a different kind of confidence as he approached Jack.
"Well, I would say I'm surprised to find you here, but I'm not," was Cat's greeting. Hey, hello, and so fate's tossed us together again.
