The lights were strung from tree to tree, and little white flags swung in the spring-evening breeze. Fairy lights twinkled and led into the deep woods around the tables and dancing area. The gala, which was organized by Repose's Rangers (and headed up by Mary Moreau) wasn't expensive to attend. A donation of a few dollars included dinner, dancing, and the money would go entirely toward the betterment of Repose's Woods. Little notecards placed near donation jars promised better trails, anti-poaching and more guided hikes, and Repose's woods were always a draw for visitors in the warm months. The meal was elegant, formal, and treats sat on an adjacent table. There was no bar, but Rangers (dressed in their greens and browns) held trays aloft, offering champagne to anyone who required libation. The dance floor, which was off to the side from the dining tables, was a brightly lit circle, and the music that played ranged from romantic to quick. Nearby, the Ranger Station was unlocked, accessible to anyone who needed to freshen up. And, of course, for those seeking privacy, the woods were all around and dark beyond the initial trails of fairy lights. The night was balmy, warm, and the sky was clear. It was a beautiful Repose night. |
