Re: log: dietre a. & daniel w.
It was people who made him nervous, not Daniel in particular despite Sieglinde’s behavior. Dietre was a nervous person in general, had always been, and it seemed he would always be. He over thought things, and meeting someone new threw his mind into overdrive until he was tripping over a tangled mess in his head every time. Interaction beyond the initial ‘Hello nice to meet you’ was an uncharted wilderness filled with danger. He had no map to guide him, and the temptation to just curl into himself and hide rather than stumble blindly into disaster after disaster was strong. But he was lonely, and being lonely made him do stupid things, like try.
Yes to the wine. Thank God. Dietre nodded and took down two glasses, pouring generously. He was already bringing his to his lips as he moved to join Daniel. There were not many seating options in his home, and he hesitated, not sure if he should sit next to his guest or not. His overthinking went on display as his eyes jumped back and forth between the couch and one of the few stools beneath the window repeatedly. In the end ‘polite distance’ won, and he chose a stool opposite Daniel, handing him the glass.
“Um… Did you want to… talk? ...First? Or should I play...?” He too looked to the dog as if for help. She had retreated to the small space beneath his desk to stare at Daniel with a worried sort of look on her face. Seeing her this way brought out a need to protect and comfort in Dietre, and he reached for her to try to coax her out.
“Was ist los mit dir? Komm, komm…” Obediently she did come and was rewarded with much petting. Dietre turned to Daniel with an apology, “She is not usually so shy.” He almost smiled, “Not like me…” Disparaging comments were Dietre’s speciality.
