Re: log: louis and ren
Louis sipped at his wine, watching Ren think. It was a great pleasure, really, watching a man like Ren thinking. He could be a bit nervous, but he didn't actually mind a comfortable silence in a conversation. He would rather let the moment breathe a little, and let Ren think his own thoughts before answering.
"Appearances," he said. "My parents and your parents should have dinner sometime." Louis did not, it was worth noting, seem out of place in the large and well-appointed house. Odds were he could find the wine cellar without too much difficulty, if pressed, and guess the number of bedrooms. "I don't know what you're talking about," he said, with soft amusement. "You have a very nice appearance."
But they were talking about motels and parents, and the need to keep up a facade. "Who is the appearance for? For you? Family? Society?" He paused, considering. "Do they have names I would know?" He didn't give a fig what the names actually were, but he wanted to place Ren and these parents of his, put them in a space where he could see them.
He touched his glass to Ren's. "To truth, and maybe a little beauty," he said, and drank deeply. The flush of the wine hadn't gotten to his cheeks yet, but it wouldn't be long.
