Re: Quicklog: Sadie and Misha
Misha, he knew talking 'bout gone folks was hard, and so he listened some and let her take her time. He nodded when she talked 'bout making tea and lemonade mixed, and he reckoned he would leave the topic of her daddy alone if she didn't pick it back up her ownself. He watched her make her cookies, and he finished his final coat of polish and set the bottle aside as he wiggled his fingers to help them air-dry quicker. And, truth, he wasn't expecting her to come on back to it. He expected cookies, and then to take his leave. He had to go talk to Damian some and soon, 'bout dinner, but 'bout Adrian, too, and he was thinking on that during the long and quiet spell.
When she talked, it was surprising some.
"You ever gone looking for them, your birth kin?" he asked, real careful, of her folks. He wasn't sure if she wanted to talk 'bout it any, and spending 10 years where no one talked, it made conversing hard at times. Misha, he wanted to let her talk, if she was inclined. But he didn't want to push at her any if she wasn't inclined, or if it was too hurting. "I'm real sorry 'bout your adopted folks. I never knew my daddy, and momma died when I was 10. My foster family, they're gone now, too," he finished, hoping she wouldn't feel alone some with the admission, that it would be easier, bearing the loss with company, but not wanting to make this 'bout himself, neither. It was a real hard line to walk, but he was trying.
She kept on talking, and he smiled at her. The smile, it was warm and sad, and he reckoned there was hurt in her talking 'bout what she'd lost, but he could tell she'd loved that grandmomma she was talking 'bout. "I think her parties sound real nice, and better than anything in the city." Misha, he recalled the hollow real fond. It wasn't nothing like the city or Repose, and his feelings for the place weren't bad, despite everything that happened there when he was small, and he could imagine just the type of gathering she was talking 'bout.
He gave her a nod, and he watched her pick out a real pretty green for her nails. "That's real pretty, and I look forward to watching you get your act put together." He wasn't real sure he'd be welcome by new management, but he could be real good at remaining unseen.
