Re: Quicklog: Sadie and Misha
"I miss it 'round here," he said as he sat, and he meant it. He hadn't thought on it any, and he hadn't actively missed the carnival, but sitting here, it made him recall how much he liked the folks. The carnival, it had always been a real ragtag group of folks, and he'd fit right in when he'd come here, all alone how he'd been. And she was a real good example of the types of folks that came here to make their homes. "Thank you kindly. Me and Damian, we got us a small place by the lake these days, and there's the apartment in the Capital. We should meet out there when you're busking. I can't cook for nothing, but Damian, he's real good in the kitchen," he said, proud as could be of the boy he loved real well.
He took the tea real eager, and he sniffed at it as the ice melted down into the sugary drink. "When I was real small, I could never decide if I liked tea or lemonade better. We had both fresh in summer, and I swear I would've given up food if I could drink both all the time." He took an appreciative sip of the tea, and he smacked his lips approving. Could be that was impolite, and that it belied his insistence on good manners, but the tea was good, and it showed his pleasure real plain. "This is real nice. Thank you."
"I reckon I understand some. Being 'round folks, it ain't always easy, 'specially when you ain't been 'round them for long periods." He'd had trouble after coming on down from Heaven. Folks, they wanted talking, and he hadn't been used to talking no more. "It takes some time, but it's real worth it. And, I find, that now I can't imagine not being 'round folks. I'd be plenty lonely," he said honest. "You met anyone interesting? You tell me all the gossip."
He took another long and greedy swallow. "I been doing good. Spring's nice, what with everything coming alive. That book party recent was interesting, and the town's been real quiet in the evenings, which is uncanny some. But things ain't been bad. It's been nice some, having some quiet. We don't get ourselves much of it," he said honest, and he lit up bright when she asked 'bout Damian. "He's doing real well. He's going to be starting school in fall. And I got into the performing arts school in the Capital for summer term, so I can drop by and watch you busking a whole lot and often."
