Log: Nish and Leo
Who: Nish and Leo What: wood chopping Where: BATL When: Tuesday League Night
"Remember primal man, who only had his hands, who forged with fire and steel, the tools to kill his meal, we honour him this day, and pray our axe to stay!"
The league of about fifteen people from Repose and the Capital, axes raised, finished the oath and pounded the handles on the wood desks, and then broke up into groups, the first two sets being called up by the scorekeepers. "Shooter! Loki!"
Loki grinned, hefting his axe in one hand and striding up to the line. Nish steps aside for him on league nights, letting him have his fun and doing a decent approximation of her personality when interacting with other players. He loved league nights, it felt like he could breathe free when he had control of their body, held his axe, threw it at a target with that satisfying thunk of the blade sinking into the wood. It wasn't exactly like home, but the nostalgia was still strong, if not the muscle memory.
After a few practice throws the match began, and he grinned and tapped axe blades with Shooter. Both were in good form tonight, and Loki managed three Bulls in the first two rounds, and four bulls and a clutch in the third. He reveled in the cheers as he hit that green dot of paint, yanking his axe out of the boards and switching sides for round three.
That was when he spotted him. Eddie's description had been good enough to make a fairly positive ID of Leo, but they'd still have to confirm once the match was over. Inside, Nish was suddenly nervous, waffling as to whether she actually wanted to do this or not.
'You'll never forgive yourself if you don't see this through,' Loki reminded her. His axe sank into the bullseye and he waited for Shooter to throw before they both retrieved their axes. 'He said this kid could get it done.'
'If this doesn't pan out, I'm done, Loki,' Nish sighed internally. He frowned, but nodded in acknowledgement. Nish had been through too much, and he understood even if he didn't share her discouragement.
The match ended with a close victory for Loki and after tapping axes with Shooter and complimenting each others' form, he sank his axe into the post as the next players came up for their turn. Didn't even pause his stride as he headed over to who he was sure was Leo standing near the back of the group. He smoothly stepped aside for Nish to take control as she caught Leo's attention with a smile. "Hey," she greeted him, "are you Leo? Eddie said I might run into you here..."
