Re: [Bar: Jack & Patrick]
[It could not be said that Patrick did not listen. He had gotten in the habit of listening hard very young. He had believed, incorrectly, that if he just listened harder to the things Webster said they would make sense to him. He'd listened so hard his eyes hurt from not blinking, man, just out of a need to not see the disappointment in Webster's face. Listening hard had never worked, but it was a habit not easily lost. From what Jack was saying, being Newt's friend was just as bad for Adrian as kissing Newt on the train tracks was, and Patrick had never considered this particular breech of intimacy. He said nothing about his friendship or Adrian's potential feelings on the matter. He would ask Adrian in the morning, somewhere between throwing punches.
He did not intend to ask anything else. He was already standing, ready to depart without dragging his feet as responsibility called him to that house in the neighborhood. But, he stopped, and he gave Jack a look that was laden with the curiosity of someone attempting to slot mismatched pieces into a puzzle.] Why is it messy for Newt? [He only stopped briefly before continuing.] You are saying this is bad for him. I understand. But I am only seeking clarification about the messy comment.
