Re: [Bar: Jack & Patrick]
[Jack sighed. It was truth: confidence and trust was what was rather more important than desire. Sexual inclination was one thing, and he knew Newt had Daniel, or whoever it was Daniel was in all this, but confidence and trust were what Adrian did not have, and Patrick, for all he sat on that stool and looked at him as if he were lying, had all of Newt's. Of that much, he was damn sure.]
Yes, they did. But what you have presently, Patrick, is a lot of what Newt is prepared to give from the man he is today. I don't say it was imagined, I don't think your brother is feeling jealous or whatever it is he's feeling because he saw things there that there weren't. But Newt has, from what I can see, let you in and if I know him a little these days, I imagine that means rather a lot, perhaps more than desire and if Adrian had it, he wouldn't be feeling so bereft.
[Jack corrected. Not because he thought silence needed to be filled, he didn't. But he clarified, because he thought it important.] No, Patrick, I know a little of what the book was about and who Newt was. Don't, for god's sake imagine I know chapter and verse, because I don't. I don't know you, not well and I just about am beginning to get to know Newt. But when I said it was messy, I was rather speaking as to Newt.
[He felt tired. Bloody-minded, actually, and as if perhaps he'd said too much. He shook his head.] I think I know very well why my advice isn't solicited often. You're a good man, Patrick. If it's that simple for you, I hope it's as simple for Newt.
