Re: [Jack & Clem: family reunion]
"I think my knife landed just how I wanted, and you know I only fuss because I care. I don't care 'bout many folks, and you can just count yourself real lucky." Course, there was more to the story with Michael than she was telling, but Jack had always liked her husband-to-be, least that was how Clementine recalled it, and she wanted sympathy for her ownself for once.
"I ain't got the slightest clue why he left. Man never has given me a good answer 'bout where he went. He just got to apologizing this week, and I care on account of it being the wrong thing to do. Ain't that good enough? And don't you go defending him. You're my kin, and you're meant to be on my side. Man deserted me, and that's plenty wrong to do, and that's just how it is. Don't be difficult. I got enough difficult with Shane being in town." She wasn't sure if he remembered Shane any, or if he'd even heard her talk 'bout the man. Clementine, she wasn't real good at remembering things 'bout other folks. "Penny's here too. My brother-in-law's cousin. She works with our Sylvie, ray of sunshine that she is."
That comment 'bout the script did make her roll her eyes. "Last thing you ever needed was a script. You come with a whole stack of them ready-made and waiting for the right opportunity for you to go reciting your lines."
Since he was being so damn disagreeable, she looked 'round the office again, in search of something to go drawing blood with. Clementine, she was real good at finding things that were plenty sharp. "I thought you'd make a real name for yourself some day. What do you write here? Things 'bout who won bingo?" She smiled real sweet and halos.
