Re: [restaurant; ren & hannah]
"It's okay. I'm trying to get out of it." She was. She didn't have a plan yet, and she wasn't sure a plan could be devised, but she was still going to get out. Even without a plan, and she would be free one day, and she knew that. She knew it because it was something she needed, and Hannah could be really determined about some things, regardless of how easy-going she mostly seemed. "The government really doesn't think of people as people. We're all assets, and we're valued like things on a shelf and with a pricetag on us. But I'm not going to be doing it forever, and I won't be going back to the private company either. I'm going to find a way." Her face was determination in feminine shades, and there was something in her expression that said she could be really, really capable amid all that vacant-seeming softness. "People underestimate me all the time."
A waitress came, and Hannah didn't even look at the food right away. She was looking at him, and she was thinking about his comment. "You're right. There's more to everyone than what's seen, and sometimes there's more to people than they read themselves when they open the book that is them. But some people, some people wear their feelings on their skin, just like they're tattooed there. You don't do that. You're in shadows," she said, the girl that didn't have much experience with anything real or first-hand, but she felt really sure about what she was saying. "Shadows are okay," she told him earnestly. "Shadows can be just as beautiful as bright things are."
He reached for the wine, and he cursed, and she laughed. It was a break in the seriousness, a sunbeam through parting clouds, and she tipped her head and looked and looked. "That's not who you are. That's what you've done. They aren't the same, are they?" That she didn't think they were was pretty evident, and she remembered the game she'd played on the forums with the boy from the military. "Two truths and a lie. I think that's a good way to get to know someone, and you can play it on your date too."
