Re: antique store: sam & julia
"I lit stopped here because it was the end of the busline," she said of Repose. She'd been running, and her running had ended here. Well, not EXACTLY here, because she hadn't ended up in front of this awesome birdhouse, but, yeah. "I kinda like that about it. And it's hella weird, and I got a soft spot for weird shit." Now even more than before, and it was nighttime and the world was fucking ALIVE in a way she'd never expected it to be. She'd always been a sunshine girl, but now the sounds of night called to her like they were tar in a needle. She loved being outside when the moon was high and fat in the fucking sky.
She considered Lou and tea parties for like a SECOND, and then she shook her head. "Nah, but that would only be like reinforcing his bad behavior." Sam thought Lou becoming a recluse was ABSOLUTELY bad behavior, huh? And Sam wasn't afraid of blunt or mouthing off. Yeah, she'd grown up shit and poor, but she hadn't never been afraid of being hit.
Sam knew what it was like to worry about her sibs, and she gave Julia a quick hug when the girl talked about Alex. Yeah, she got it. She knew what it was like to get the word that one of her sibs was dead, too, huh? She knew what that shit was like, and even thinking about it made her want a hit. Her body didn't jones anymore, but sometimes the emotion hunger came back, yeah? Thinking of Joey dying did that.
"You got to meet him sometime." She thought Julia would be fine with Cris, huh? All the guys back home were like him, at least in Jersey, and everyone back home had a thick fucking skin. It was part of growing up Alexander. Everyone picking on each other, mocking and calling names, and then saying shit like it was and without any fucking softening. Sam appreciated that shit. She wasn't good at the butt patting people like Lou and Iris required of her. "I'm hella happy. I'm not sure YOU are, but give this town time. It might do it for you, baby." Sam sure fucking hoped so. People, she'd learned, either loved or hated this place.
