Re: [The Cat: Nishka & Cat & Jack]
Cat wasn't listening. Eavesdropping, while entirely her thing, wasn't something she could do when the bar was crowded. Valentine's Day? Was a madhouse. All the lonely hearts in town had to go somewhere, and somewhere? Was here. Oh, there was the strip club, but not everyone was into that sort of thing, and she was keeping busy ensuring glasses were filled and tears were mopped up. She'd been hearing stories until her head spun, and next year someone else was absolutely working this shift. She wasn't even especially maudlin this year, and it was still starting to get to her. She refused to become weepy. She refused.
So, no, she hadn't been eavesdropping, but she would hardly be a good bartender if she didn't keep the drinks coming. And she listened for her name, because that was a requirement.
She walked back to Jack and Nishka just in time to hear Nishka admit to the lawyer thing, and she smiled an entertained little smile as she stopped in front of them. "Steve McRory. He's another lawyer in town. He usually lends a hand out here. You know, if you want to meet a fellow do-gooder." She grinned. "Unless you defend the criminals, in which case I'll take your card." Oh, Cat didn't bother pretending any kind of innocence. "What good do I do in the world? No, don't answer that." She grinned lush and cat that ate the canary. "I think I'm the one bringing chaos for someone else to balance out, a saint somewhere, or perhaps a particularly diligent nun." Was that a serious answer? No, not really. "Another round?"
