Repose had a habit of that. Allocating people to you, as if your own preferences and tastes didn't much matter in the course of things. Jack hadn't the earthliest idea where Nishka's thinking had turned but he knew reminders could be sweet as well as bitter. He leaned back on the bar-stool and looked along the line of customers to where Cat was with the kind of intent that was rather more about the alcohol than needing to be rescued from the deeply personal.
"A detective. Very protect and serve. Selfless type?" The cop Jack was after wasn't selfless. He'd been in it for himself and he deserved to be wrung for information but that cop was buried in a thick clump of men all clapping one another on the back, and the timing still wasn't bloody right. "What about you, what are you? Mine's in biology."
Which was a euphemism, but it adequately described Newt from a distance. He supposed Newt made a difference. He did to the animals he encountered. Perhaps rather more than Jack had managed in a decade or so of trying.
