Re: [The Cat: Nishka & Cat & Jack]
Unburdening was a good word for what Nish was unconsciously doing. James had died three months ago, and in that time, she'd had to spend over a month healing from her own injuries from the crash, as well as deal with the police, James' parents, a funeral, shutting down her law practice, and her brother fretting over her like a nervous nanny. And swift on the heels of all this was her reviewing the police report, and her sudden and consuming need to find the person who had caused the crash, and also the person who had witnessed it.
In all that time, she'd had precious few moments to grieve. To do nothing but process what had happened. Talk it out with someone who wasn't involved in it. She had been seeing a therapist in California, before the crash, but ever since James died she hadn't been back. She had Sadie to talk to, but she didn't want to unload all of the festering emotions she was holding in on the poor girl, she had her own issues to deal with. So her options were to keep holding onto it, or let it out a little at a time at whatever bar she happened to be in, with whoever would listen. And Jack seemed a pretty good choice.
"I guess it's nice to know I'm not the only rudderless drifter that found their way here," she said with a hint of amusement, glancing at him and then back to her glass. "I take it I'm listening to the voice of experience?" she asked, hesitating before looking over at him again.
